15. Ditto, oh, sorry, not supposed to say that here. But yeah, that is the
big issue with Scotland. Gloomy, little sun, cold, damp, not much fun.
After 20 years in Los Angeles, and 20 years in south Africa, my friend from Scotland retired to Scotland.
Ugh.
He was a bit gloomy about it.

18. And unemployed ones at that. When my friend moved back,
he found 50% unemployment. He never did find any work, which he thought he would do right away. He never did til his passing away.
He was not a drinker, and he found the national passtime to be ... drinking. As they mostly had nothing else to do.

Edited on Mon Feb-28-11 05:12 PM by stuntcat
Last year we took a 4-day tour of the highlands and the lachs, and we have pictures from that exact place, no kidding, that very spot!! In my pictures there are sheep near the edges of the stone fence that's at the right edge of the picture.

And Hech Yeah, Scotland is where I'll move somday, to Edinburgh.

16. Alas, getting permission to live in the UK is NOT easy
Some friends of mine whose financial situation is quite solid (retirees with good pensions, just sold a huge house) and had no criminal records applied to retire to England and were denied. They can stay only six months out of a year.
