1. I'll take Sticky Fingers for $1,000 Alex.
Not a big fan of Exile. Sorry.

4. BBman--beat me by apparently a matter of seconds and even with the same Stones album
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 08:42 PM by abq e streeter
for whatever that's worth, except I do like Exile; just think it's somewhat over-rated but still has some great stuff on it.

10. As much as I love Sticky Fingers or Let it Bleed....this album is beyond the stones
It goes beyond the band in the same way "The Wall" goes beyond Pink Floyd, "Abbey Road" goes beyond the Beatles and "White Light/White Heat" Goes beyond Velvet Underground.

2. Undeniably great album, but not even the best Stones album (I know many Stones fans disagree with me
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 08:44 PM by abq e streeter
on that ).....And I even have a dog in this fight; a friend played on it, but the greatest rock and roll album ever made, strictly in my opinion, is Dylan's Highway 61 , with London Calling and the 1st Doors album as honorable mentions. I think Sticky Fingers is the Stones best (although sometimes I think maybe Beggar's Banquet instead)...IMO again.

6. But with Exile, its not the songs, but the sum of its parts
From "Rocks Off" to "Shine a Light" its a celebration. Blues Rock, Country Blues, Honky Rock, Rocky Honky Tonk - what have you. And most albums would have ended there.

But where this album goes the distance is the last track, "Soul Survivor"

It reintroduces the darkness that surrounds us all, leaving us to think - yeah, that was great but what about us?

Beautiful album, and like other great albums (Pink Floyd's "The Wall",Radiohead's "OK Computer")it goes beyond itself

7. You would be right except....
London Calling is no Sandinista!, and if you said Sandinista! I would have maybe let it share the pedestal we just created.

As for The Doors first album, sure its great but 20th Century Fox? Take it as it comes?

Whereas on Exile, there are no bad songs, and played in order, you feel as if you are right there, sweating along with the band in the basement at Nellcôte. This is even clearer on "I Just Want to see his Face"

This is Keith Richard's baby, and he is/was the genius behind the Stones, I am convinced.

9. I do completely agree with your last sentence
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 09:05 PM by abq e streeter
we'll just have to agree to disagree regarding the rest.
The Stones were and are, Keith's band..
I've actually never asked my friend which album he thinks was their best (I try to never talk about the Stones with him, unless he brings them up; has to get tiring when that's all anyone wants to talk about ).
I do know that his favorite song that he played with them was on Sticky Fingers.

11. Yep. And the man is a misunderstood genius
He is what Mick pretends to be on stage. Mick even said this himself.
