NuclearDem has a place to live, avoids being homeless!
Alright, so, long story short--I was discharged from the Air Force in December, and I've been living with my friend in his military housing since August. Three weeks ago, I got a call from my friend (who was TDY at the time, in a different state) telling me that the housing administration caught on to the fact that I had lived there well over the 30 day policy they allow, and that I had to find a different place to live by February 1st.

Now, with a (notsofantastic) discharge over my head and a lack of employment, it's been difficult to find a place...I actually started looking at homeless shelters during the last week.

But I just signed a rental agreement for a place looking for a couple extra roommates, month-to-month, that I got ahold of two days ago. I've got the money to float me the three months I'll be there, and then it's back to Indiana with me!

...you used to be able to get (at least eventually) an upgrade to
virtually any discharge short of DIShonorable.

And I'm pretty sure the ONLY time I've been asked for any military
paperwork is when I applied for the GI Bill for college -- NEVER by
any employer.

But this was quite a while ago.

And congratulations on finding a place -- been close... VERY close to
being literally out on the streets a coupla times -- and I'm not nearly
as resourceful anymore as most of the street people that I encounter.

Plus, with my medical and dietary needs now -- "out on the streets"
could probably be easily translated to "death sentence".

3. I got an OTH
Which, as you said, I can appeal--which I definitely plan on doing in the next year or so.

But that, combined with the lack of employment, made it difficult.

4. Congratulations and holy shit, man...
My absolute nightmare, the worst thing that could happen to me save the serious illness or death of a loved one, is that I become homeless.

I am tremendously thrilled for you! Congratulations!
