Tiny, squirming baby doll
Edited on Sat Jan-22-11 06:48 PM by frogmarch
I just remembered a tiny (about as long as my index finger) newborn baby doll that had a wire inside it that ran the length of the doll. The end of the wire that was on the outside of the doll was bent to form a handle. Turning the handle in circles made the doll squirm. It was freaky.

Anyone remember the doll? If so, please post a picture!

I remember the doll from the 1960s.

1. I don't remember that one...
When I was a kid I saw one of these, later I learned they sold like lead balloons.

My younger sister had this one creepy doll, had a big head, by pulling a string, the head made the eyes change color and expression with a "click" sound.

3. I guess even then people knew creepy when they
saw it. lol

I don't remember ever seeing the baby Jesus setup, but your description of your sister's creepy doll kind of rings a bell.

The squirming doll must have had wires all over inside it, because its head, body and all its limbs moved when the crank was turned. Grotesque lil feller.

7. Eek! Yes, that's the one that
rang a bell for me. :scared: is right.

There was a doll that had "growing" hair. When the hair was long and given a yank, it rolled up inside the doll's head like a window shade, to any length desired. To lengthen it again, all one had to do was to pull it down to the desired length. My daughter had this doll, but she gave it a haircut when the hair was short, and when she rolled it up, it vanished inside the doll's head. Her dad fixed it for her by pulling off the head and restarting the hair. She was badly traumatized by that, but now that she's in her forties, she can finally laugh about it.

11. One other doll my sister had
"Growing Up Skipper"

It was more good for a laugh than disturbing like "Blythe."

2. The closest thing to what you describe that I remember
was a little rubber hula dancer on a postcard with a wire "crank" you could turn to make her dance. This was in the late 60's- I found a picture of similar card-

4. It sounds similar, all right.
Same principle, I'll bet. The crank looks identical to the one of the squirming baby.

People in the 60s - including me - were easily amused, I think!

6. I remember a partially clothed female form, worked the same way
She was kneeling, and the crank made her writhe. I saw her in a souvenir shop in Florida probably 45 years ago, sorry can't find a pic.

8. That one sounds
even creepier than squirming baby!

I wonder why they didn't catch on for very long. Glad they didn't, but now I'd like to see one again, just out of curiosity.

9. I would have been embarrassed to buy the one I saw
However, I would like to see it again too, just to see how different it is from how I remember it. I remember it being very sexy and life-like. I was a kid, and I am sure now it would appear like a cheap toy.

10. Maybe it's on Ebay. :-)
I do know what you mean about wondering if our memories of these squirming/writhing toys are accurate. I hadn't thought of squirming baby for more than 40 years, till right before I started the thread. I wonder what other weird things are hibernating in my brain. :-(

12. I am positive all kinds of weird things are hibernating in your brain
It is the nature of our minds :) You are in good company. I searched on Ebay, writhing woman, squirming rubber female, kneeling hula dancer . . .Nada. I found her once, on the Internet. I believe her name was Lily and the guy who had her made a brief film of her working. I can't find that video now.

Thank you, this is real close. Her name is Aanette, but she is very similar to Lily:

Again, thank you
