My grandson was mugged today
Beaten and kicked badly. He'll require major dental/mouth work. All this for his wallet. What a sick world. Broad daylight.

1. What a horrible thing to have to experience. That it happened in broad
daylight makes it worse. Wishing him a quick recovery.

3. I'm so sorry, my dear emilyg...
That sounds just awful.

I hope he'll get some emotional/psychological support in addition to the physical...

Hugs to him, you, and everyone who loves him...

4. It's a horrible experience... and you may want to recommend some counseling/therapy.
.
.
.
I got mugged by four men when I was just 18. I didn't realize just how traumatic
it was (I was in a pretty macho military culture) until I realized that I had been
a walking arsenal for a year after the event.
.
It was only after a full year that I was able to unclench and start living like a
human being again -- and I didn't have major physical trauma as a result.
.
.
.
Empathic strengrh and healing vibes to him.

7. So sorry for him and the whole
family. I'm with the counseling suggested people but want to add that you/he should also check to see if there is a victim/witness coordinator and/or fund in your state. Some states have a fund set up to help people with cost associated with the crime. They might help pay for the hospital, dental work and counseling. They are also a very good resource for finding help and should it get into the court system provide your grandson with help and inform him of his rights, like to know what is going on. Good luck and I hope he can over come and heal quickly from this. Your state's attorney should know if there is one and how to contact them.

11. If she can't find anything
in her state easily might try contacting http://www.mdcrimevictims.org I know they are MD but they might have numbers for other states. Good luck.

8. That's awful. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Agree with the counseling advice. He's had a very traumatic experience, never know how that could manifest down the road. A good idea to talk it out with someone outside the family.

:eyes:

What a horrible situation. I've been there before. Been robbed, been beaten, been left for dead. But I refuse to carry any weapon to this day. I hope for a speedy recovery for your grandson.

32. Sick world indeed, Emily...wish I had some answers for you, but I don't.
Right now, we are in a period where everything just seems so wrong, so lacking in civility, so violent, so confrontational.

We didn't have a "9/11" in Arizona...but the aftermath has produced a similar rumbling, with a difference. After 9/11, for a very, very brief period of time, people said "please" and "thank you" and instead of honking their horns and flipping people off they would slow down and smile and wave people into traffic.

After Arizona, all we got was a bigger divide than the one we had before the shots were fired. It was like everything wrong in our world was put under a microscope and we were all forced to take a look.

Tonight, I'll pray for your grandson, and I'll pray for you. That's all I can do. Maybe one day, when we leave this world behind, we will all make perfect sense out of the senseless. I don't know. Faith doesn't ask us to believe in that, it demands it. And there are days when that demand seems as unreasonable as unreasonable gets.
