Un-fucking believable.. Alley broke her leg AGAIN..
Some of you will remember when I posted pictures of Alley being Medivac'd off a local mountain a few years ago. Earlier this evening I watching the Lakers in the kitchen. At half time I went in to the bed room and heard Alley scream. Running back to the kitchen I found Alley on the floor in a sitting position with her legs extended. The SAME leg she broke before was angled slightly out. Minnie-Alley and I got her up and to our bed. At first she refused to go to the hospital, but after 10 minutes or so she let me take her to our urgent care after hours location.

Pacificare's (our insurance) after hours location is in downtown Los Angeles, smack-dab between the Staples Center and the Nokia theater. All the streets were blocked off due to the game and after circling the area a couple of times Alley relented and let me drive her all the way back to the Southbay and our local ER. Our ER deductible is only $100, nothing to sneeze at, but if it was me I would have not given it a moments thought. She has a slight fracture of the top of her tibia, and will see her orthodontic surgeon Tuesday to see what the treatment will be. She is soo bummed to be back on crutches..

Now I feel like a schmuck for spending 40$ bucks earlier this evening on surf gloves so my hands won't get too cold, and my wife doesn't want to spend a c-note on herself for an ER visit.

3. We are trying to make Alley more comfortable..
After the first time she broke her leg we developed a routine, so we don't have to reinvent proceedures. My sister has offered to come over and help out for a few days while I'm at work so we should be OK.

2. I'm sorry to hear it...sending good vibes...
and a few giggles, because I think you meant "orthopedic" and not "orthodontic" which is a dental surgeon. :P

9. No thankfully.
The first time she broke her ankle and lower tibia/fibula. She has 6 pins and 2 plates in her low leg/ankle. This time she has a small fracture of her upper tibia, and we will find out more Tuesday when she has an MRI. The is a definite possibility of an ACL tear, but we are hoping for the best.

6. I'm so sorry, my dear denbot!
What awful luck!

Don't feel like a schmuck...you had no way to know this was going to happen...

I wonder if she's getting enough calcium...

Quick healing to her...

Who's your doctor? PM me if you'd like...

I have a really good one. But I don't know if he's in your system.

Feel better, Alley!

10. Thanks Miss CP
After she broke her leg the first time Alley was referred to an endocrinologist who found a vitamin D deficiency. She as been taking both vitamin D, and calcium. My wife has been with her HMO doctor for over 10 years and really likes her so I doubt that she would switch, but thank you for suggesting a a referral.

12. Aww, I hope she heals quickly.
I don't know much about this stuff, but are crutches still necessary with some of the braces they make now?

Sending healing thoughts (and maybe a little money soon; will email you on that :))

 to you all

13. Right now she has a brace to immobilize her leg.
To simply cover her exposed foot with a light blanket causes her pain. There is no way she could put weight on that foot any time soon.

15. Okay, thanks :)
As I mentioned, I really don't know anything about treating breaks, so forgive my ignorance.

I was just thinking about the blanket part, and if that's just to keep her warm, you could use a big plastic bag and a hairdryer inside it to keep her foot warm :) Or one of those heater-type Vornado fans pointed at it...

14. Please tell her to stop doing that - and to get well soon
That sounds just awful. I hope they can do something soon to make her more comfortable.

As for the typo - whatever. I say the wrong specialist out loud, and I know the difference. Typing tired and under stress doesn't count. :-)

16. You should have used bamboo for the new flooring, not banana!
:)

Seriously, so sorry to hear this and I hope it's good news from the ortho on Tuesday. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
