2. Norton is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

4. Have to agree with the other replies - it's become bloat/mal/everything bad ware
that is close to impossible to remove from your computer. Sorry for your problems..! Do you use Firefox? Not sure how your permissions or options or set (or -controlled- by NAV) but if you're not using FF... maybe give it a try?

Making sure that DU has a cookies exception (allowed) for www.democraticunderground.com and democraticundergound.com - even if you do a clean sweep of your cookies won't affect these two if you've designated them as allowed exceptions. At least that works for me. I learned about doing this when I first registered for DU, and I believe is in a help/faq forum on this site somewhere... but my issue may simply be due to the fact that I may be more strict with what I let happen - but that's me.

I like an internet experience that is simple, works well and does as few things to annoy/mess with me as possible. But it's the internet, so, cave canem (to all of us). Even so, we can still get a nasty bite. : )

I'm in NO WAY an expert so don't take my relating my experience for advice - other details (your firewall, OS, Mac/PC, other security software, etc.) all matter. That said, If you don't use Firefox, it's worth looking into perhaps.

There are some great diagnostic sites with forums that you might want to investigate - especially for such a specific issue. Or better yet - how to deal with that bully NAV and use one of several better alternatives...

Good luck!

5. Yeah, my experience with Norton was it was UN-
REMOVABLE. Long time ago now! I learned my lesson young... ger... anyways how about Avast instead? And a firewall. And some spyware remover stuff, I am no longer sold on Spybot S&D but do use CCleaner sometimes more than once a day. (My Firefox does that memory-hog thing, annoying.)

Anyways, do use Firefox instead of I.E. for starters.

So many people get hooked into that Norton or McAfee free-for-six-months stuff when they get a new computer, and I suppose it's the simple choice for people who don't have alot of info on alternatives yet.

When I first had Norton? I liked it. I liked it for a long time. It used to be different. Kept Norton "Go-Back" for a long time after I dropped the antivirus. Be careful how you use CCleaner, too, or you might need to 'go baaaaack~~~!'

; )
