Rented two movies this weekend: Letters to Juliet and A Single Man
Letters -- should have been on Lifetime TV. Really rather bad. I was hoping for some armchair travel, and there was a bit of that, but ... if I'd just turned to the travel channel I'd have probably enjoyed it more.

A Single Man - really enjoyed that. Colin Firth was incredible.

Anyone else see either of these? What did you think? :hi:

1. My dear Flaxbee!
I saw A Single Man, and thought it was really well done, and very sad.

Colin Firth is always incredible! Did you see him in Love Actually? It's a great ensemble piece, perfect for Christmas.

2. yes, he was wonderful in Love, Actually. But he first came to my attention
(and, I suspect, everyone else's) as Mr. Darcy in A&E's Pride and Prejudice!

:hi:

The movie made me really miss SoCal, especially since it's 20 degrees here, 10 with wind chill right now (Northern Virginia). :scared: (<-- that smilie is to show how cold - brrrr - it is!)

3. Loved "A Single Man".
My daughter and I watched it last weekend.

I thought that Julianne Moore struck a
harsh note, though. Almost RUINED the movie
for me with her horrendous accent.

The sets and the cinematography were
breathtaking!

As were the male actors....

I couldn't BELIEVE that the cute college
boy was played by the same KID who played
Marcus opposite Hugh Grant's character in
"About A Boy".

4. I know - the kid, Nicholas Hoult - really grew into has looks, hasn't he?
I recognized him - I think it's his eyes - glad to see he's still acting.

I loved About a Boy, too.

6. it really was drivel
There are some 'chick flicks' that are actually decent - In Her Shoes, for instance. And honestly, The House Bunny was funny. But Letters ... really was pathetic. Too bad, b/c Vanessa Redgrave was in it.

7. I've only seen one "chick flick" I liked
it was Fried Green Tomatoes :)
