1. Yeah
But I wonder sometimes. I've ended up hiding a lot of tea-bagging relatives and other obnoxious a-holes from my past who I've mistakenly "friended".

Still, I can keep up on family news, so there is that.

2. Yup, I am, my dear Dinger...
I find it a very handy cross-section between my family, my DU friends, and my poetry friends...

:hi:

invaluable communication tool. Has its downsides, of course, but as long as you're not an idiot who posts sensitive material, its no problem.

I not only do not have an account, I refuse all requests. If they want me to know something / see something they can damn well email me.

7. Yes.
It's my connection to the outside world and my friends. Someday I shall escape this godforsaken city, one cannot imagine how much I hate DC. If I had anyplace to go, I'd pack up tomorrow and leave.

Anyways, Facebook keeps me sane.

15. As soon as I saw I had a reply to this, I knew it was you.

Seriously though, can you blame me? I hate politics people (ironic. I concede, typing this on DU), I hate my roommates, my area, my job, all my friends are hundreds of miles away or too busy. The weather sucks 11 months of the year and the other month I have to take enough antihistamine put a horse into a coma because I'm deathly allergic to cherry-blossom pollen. Everything is more expensive here, everything sucks here. I can't think of anyplace on the East Coast I'd want to live less.

I came here to stay a few months and put my life back together after NYC went to crap on me and I'm stuck here because I can't get anybody to respond to resumes back that way in CT or NYC or even Newark or Boston. Anything to be closer to home.

18. You also seem to have the worst luck
Between the snowstorms, thunderstorm messes and than the nastiness at the Discovery Channel awhile back you really have a hell of a time getting to and fro around here, thats for sure!

22. Ironic that you say that. I lived in CT and worked in NYC for 20 years
and would never return there. Damn hated it.

CT weather sucks, and housing is more (alot more) expensive.

Love the warmer weather here, and still have a few weeks of cold weather to keep the wife and daughter happy.

25. See I think the weather is better there...
certainly all 4 seasons in New England > Maryland.

Real Estate is much cheaper there. I can rent a house in Hartford Co. for what I pay for 1 furnished BR in a shared (with 4 people) semi-flophouse apartment in Wheaton. I can share a 2BR in Brooklyn or Bronx for the same price.

20. other
got invited, signed up, hardly ever look at it (don't get it, really). One day looked around, found something bad, posted about it, got in trouble, reinforced my lack of comprehension about the whole thing.

public information openly posted there is considered personal information by DU - not allowed to be posted here. Just a little PSA, FYI, learned kind of the hard way.

And all my friends are hardcore liberals. Still, none of them comments on my status updates. Not one asking me what kind of banana I eat when I post that I eat a banana.

It's a free range banana, but I never get to tell about it. Because it's irrelevant to farm ville, obviously. ;)

37. Do you also post photos of your half-eaten bananas?
If you did, you might get a response. The less appealing you can make the half-eaten food look, the better.

40. just can't
I just can't do it.. As an IT person you would think i could handle it, but in all reality the premise of facebook just doesn't sit well with me... I am who i am with the people i'm with at the time... facebook founder believes you are one person no matter what, but I am not. I am a good son, a good bother, a raging liberal, an IT guy, a hiking nut, a devout atheist. But all those roles are not shown to everyone. i might so parts an pieces to different people at different times, but if some people knew everything about me always it would seriously change and could harm the relationships that i currently have.
