Surgery tomorrow - Lounge vibes, please?
Gallbladder removal via laparoscopy. Apparently I have a gallstone the size of Cleveland (and here I thought it was the political landscape making me nauseated!) I've had three previous surgeries on other body parts with no problems (OK, I puked my guts out after the first one). For some reason, I'm anxious about this one tomorrow. Thanks!

Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 03:52 PM by Tikki
I believe I was the last person on Earth to have the old style gallbladder removal (1974)...
They opened me up from stem to stern and yanked and yanked it out. Big ole scar.
Your surgery..simple little nip and a tiny scar and best of all...NO MORE GB ATTACKS..

7. Thank you, Tikki!
Apparently they make four small incisions: one just below the navel and three just below the ribs on the right side. The use the navel incision to pump in CO2 to expand the working area. It can't be any worse than a colonoscopy as far as the social niceties go!

3. After my younger sis waited 2 years before finally taking the doc's advice...
and had her gallbladder removed, the doctor said her gallstones were "impressive."

Hang in there. You'll feel so much better after.

The surgeon is older than God and a very nice man. I'd rather have a surgeon like him who has performed many of these procedures than some fresh-faced fifteen year-old (they're all starting to look like fifteen year-olds, for some reason).

5. Vibes your way, foxfeet.
Had the same surgery about four years ago. It's really one of the most common surgeries done and they do have it down to a science. At least they no longer require the huge incision they used to many, many years ago. This one really is a breeze.

Give yourself time to heal. Wishing you a full and uncomplicated recovery. :hi:

My biggest fear about recovery is that one of my critters (three cats, three dogs) will inadvertently stick a paw through one of the incisions. No jumping on Dad's belly for a little while!

Last night we had a wind storm, with power outages for several tens of thousands of households. Today we had a small earthquake (4.2), which, thankfully, I didn't even notice. I'm hoping these aren't omens! If the power goes out when I'm on the table, I may wind up with nothing for the TSA to grope!

24. Hey, think about the great pain drugs they'll give you!
When I was in the hospital a couple of months ago they gave me something via IV that made me fly around the room in my hospital bed, waving at the beautiful nurses standing on the floor below. The flying part only lasted about 20 seconds or so but it sure was fun. I wonder what that was they gave me.

34. I'm sure you can.
They will be giving you something in your IV for pain. If you don't get around to the flying around the room part, tell them it still hurts real bad and mild pain killers never help you any. Then get ready for fun.

Get better quick and report back, OK?

45. UPDATE: Still alive and kicking.
Even if the kicking does have a slow, languorous quality. Surgery went well-- three incisions under the ribs on the right side and one apparently in the middle of my navel; at least it looks that way. While I can't honestly say I'd recommend this surgery for pleasure, my drug-induced ennui is sort of pleasant for the short term (I'm not a big fan of opioids). My partner, Mr. foxfeet, is taking good care of me and the dogs are curious about the incisions, which they continue to try to sniff. Mr. foxfeet accurately notes that, between the two of us and our various past surgeries, we are left with just enough to make one person.

Thanks to all for your good vibes and well-wishes! I am grateful for your support. I'm might spend some time in GD, because in my current state, I'd be really difficult to piss off!

A lap is no sweat. I went into surgery at 10am (gallbladder). I was home at 3:30p, checking my email. A little tried and sore for a couple of days, then back on the streets.

You'll have four tiny scars, barely noticeable.
