14. The Marlboro ad is from lo-o-o-ong ago
Working on a lawsuit against Philip Morris, one of the more interesting things we found were that Marlboros were originally marketed to women. They had a filter before filters were cool, and one of the selling points was that the filter was wrapped in silk out of consideration for a lady's dainty fingers. Now Marlboro is considerably butched up, and the Marlboro Man is an advertising by-word, but it started out as a Depression- and World War II-era version of Virginia Slims.
