And that pleased me, purely for political reasons.

Does that make me a bad person?

1. Doesn't make you a bad person at all. It's some of the other stuff you do.
:P

Seriously, though, I always cheer when a team from the SE corner of our country loses, or a team from Michigan or Illinois.

2. Atlanta itself is a tiny blue island in a deep red sea
most areas inside the Perimeter (ring road) are OK. Some are actually pretty cool.

Outside, however, lurks Newt Gingrich country. :scared:

3. Ted Turner, one of the Braves owners, donates to a lot of liberal causes
Edited on Tue Oct-12-10 12:59 PM by TZ
He's a noted environmental champion.
So it doesn't make you a bad person but it makes you look like you don't know much about baseball OR politics

17. You know he's from Brazil, right?
I'll bet he knows more about American politics and sports than all of DU knows about his country's politics and national sport combined.

So... there's that.

6. No, it does not. I cheer for Atlanta to lose to ANYONE because of
not only Jane Fonda's former affiliation with the team, but mostly because of that yuppie / assholish "hatchet chop."

I'm an American Indian, and though I'm not easily offended, I find that to be offensive.

7. Even though i wasn't even born when it happened...
As A Wisconsinite, I can never ever forgive the Braves for leaving Milwaukee. The individual players, yes, but the organization, no.

10. Blue State/Red State geography is certainly a tenuous reason to root for one team over another.
Or, to feel a sense of satisfaction when one team beats another.

In the end, both teams are owned by rapacious capitalists. (Giants owner Bill Neukom made his scratch defending Microsoft against government anti-trust lawsuits.)

And, both teams' players are millionaires who, if they have any interest in politics at all, are probably conservative meat-heads.

11. Actually, I think they got beat out by New York
last night, didn't they? Used to watch Braves games religiously, but then got bummed out over their "prayer events" or some such bullshit after some of the games - that, and Andrew Jones leaving and most everyone else I liked.

14. The Giants have been in San Francisco since 1958
before that, they were the New York Giants.

The only New York team in the playoffs is the Yankees, who are in the American League; thus, they would not have faced the NL Braves until the World Series.

Just kidding. Not really a baseball fan myself, but I did pull for the Braves long ago (back when all they had going for them was Dale Murphy and they were the worst team in baseball).

Georgia = 60% bigoted assholes; 40% pretty cool people
Whatever the best state is that y'all yankees have = 40% bigoted assholes; 60% pretty cool people

We're all a shade of purple.
