Today is my birthday
I am 38 years old. I already have gray hair, but I'm okay with that. :)

One of my sisters got married on Saturday, and that made me very happy for her. She's been through a lot in life and she seemed to have the bad habit of picking bad boyfriends. We're talking really bad news here, folks. One guy in particular would actually hit her and the rest had no respect for her at all. The guy she married seems like he is genuinely kind. He once told her, "Baby, I love you like fat kids love cake." She finally picked a good one, and I am very happy for her.

Another one of my sisters called me to wish me happy birthday. I wished her a happy life and she's got one. She's married to a nice guy and they have a happy and healthy little girl that they are bringing up right. We talked for a long time about family and friends, and we were both happy that our sister who got married has finally found the one.

But I got some bad news. I have a sister who is only 26. She called me to wish me a happy birthday, but then said she will have to go into surgery soon to have her gall bladder removed. They are going to try to do it in the least invasive way possible, but they might have to cut her open in a big way if that doesn't work out. I think she will be okay, but she has me a little worried. We share the same taste in music and she is going to a Muse concert soon and she wanted me to go along, but I can't do it because of my work schedule.

I will also miss my newly married sister's wedding reception.

So it's been a bittersweet day for me today. I guess that's the way life is sometimes. But I am happy. I think we are all going to be okay.

4. Happy Birthday, my dear Tobin!
38...You have many many good decades ahead of you!

I'm glad to hear about your two happily married sisters! And I think your sister who's facing the gall bladder surgery will be just fine as well...

I know it's scary when someone you love faces surgery...but gall bladders are normally not very invasive.

I hope your birthday will be a wonderful day for you!

10. Happy Birthday, m'dear. You sound like a lovely person.
Your affection for your family comes through beautifully. Btw I had the gallbladder surgery years ago and optimally she'll have a laproscopy and it'll be a piece of cake. And she'll feel MUCH better after.

And your sister's surgery (cholecystectomy, I think), while undesired if not
necessary... should have a VERY positive effect on her health and life in

Guess it's over by now. And best wishes to your sisters. I think your sister's gall-bladder problem will likely be okay - don't know for sure of course, but these days the docs do what they can to ensure the least-invasive and least-dangerous routes in taking care of these matters. But it's always a worry, I know. So, best to her, and the whole family. And the other family issues - we all worry about our sibling's choices in partners - I know that well, and know that I have been a particular worry to my sweet brother through the years. You're a good brother too, I can tell. :)

It'll work out. Take care, and enjoy the rest of your birthday week. You're still a young-un!! *grin*

And try not to worry about your sister's gall bladder surgery. It's a very common procedure and usually only minimally invasive. Both of my parents and ALL 3 of my siblings have had it done and they're no worse for the wear. Your sister is likely to be just fine.

Relax and enjoy the day!

40. Happy Birthday Tobin..
Just a side note...My mother, my grandmother and my great aunt all had their gall bladders removed, a long time ago. It was major invasive surgery for sure in those days.
And they were all just fine afterwards. Better, in fact.
I'm sure your sister will do very well.
Your family sounds lovely and yes, you're all going to be okay.

44. Sorry about your sister. Gall-bladder surgery is generally not a big deal
these days, and I hope she can get through it with the laporoscopic version.

Nonetheless, enjoy your B-Day, even if it's a bit difficult because of that news.

(Christ, I'm 56 and have no grey hair or baldness. Guess I got lucky; it's not like I've ever taken care of myself.)
