How to remove bumper stickers without damaging finish
I hate bumper stickers, especially those that do not reflect my point of view. How do I remove them without damaging the finish on the car?

Thanks

1. Use a hair drier.
The vinyl and glue becomes elastic again and peels right off. Unless it doesn't, in which case you're hosed.

5. It would be nice if cars started to have bumpers again
instead of painted fibreglas with foam in back of it. Were the bumpers either flat black or chrome, one could use naphtha to remove the glue residue after the sticker came off. Unfortunately, that damages the paint on those damned painted non bumpers.

It's why my car has no bumper stickers. No bumpers.

10. Naptha shouldn't damage the finish
I used to use it all the time on painted surfaces. It's expensive if you do find it these days. Mineral spirits or paint thinner is a reasonable substitute.

6. 3M adhesive remover
It's expensive, but works if the hair dryer method doesn't.

12. I just had to remove the registration numbers from our recently purchased boat last weekend
and I used Goo Gone Plant Power. $5.29 for 14 oz. Worked like a charm. I tried everything from goo gone petroleum based to alcohol to vinegar to wd40 and finally tried this product and it came right off. All the others that even tried to work just made the glue smear but this stuff softened it up where I took my finger nail and removed it without a scratch or anything in the finish. Smells good too as a bonus. Then I used turtle wax to really clean it up with. When I was finished there was no trace of any stickers there ever.

Part Number: 1733 about 3/4 of the way down the page.

17. Maybe they bought a used car with the stickers already on it?
Or perhaps it's a hand-me-down from parents, siblings, etc. Lots of possibilities suggest themselves.

19. Yeah. I know exactly how to get the gunk off, but the tone of your OP makes me think you're planning
on removing them from other peoples' cars.

Which would be wrong.

Please provide more details, and I'll tell you how to do it.

22. If you want to put your OWN on, get magnetic sheeting and put them on it.
I move magnet/bumper stickers around between the two cars and to fit my mood or current political atmosphere. You can get the sheeting in pretty big rolls for a decent price (much cheaper than the 8 1/2 x 11 sheets for printers).

If the stickers were put on by a previous owner, or you got hit by a Republidroid, that can be far more difficult. I had to take a McCain/Palin sticker off and Goo-Gone worked great.

the sticker a few times and then peel the sticker off. The sticker nor will the vehicle will be damaged. I have a collection of old bumper stickers in my garage from previous elections.
