Today would've been my Dad's birthday.
So I'm going to take some time off from crying over "her" in order to cry about "him" a little. I don't know about the rest of you guys who have lost their fathers, but for me, it was a sad rite of passage that has left me forever changed and a little diminished.

4. It's been like, 6 years.
But it seems like it was yesterday.

5. Sorry, dawg. It was my mother's birthday, too.
She would have been 86.

6. checking in to send you a hug...
hang in there, dawg. Haven't lost my father yet but lost my mom just over two years ago, and it still smarts like hell. She missed our daughter's high school graduation and that nearly killed me.

7. I have another couple of months before my dad's first birthday since he's been gone, but
I've already been through this with mom's birthday so I know what to expect.

8. Thanks.
Thanks y'all, for your sweet comments and sympathy. I hope that somewhere, somehow, Dad knows that I miss him. The feelings a son has for his father can be a curious ball of confusion and contradiction. He was a very different man from me, but I can also now see that in many ways we are alike.

I know that many of you who have lost parents feel the same type of feelings as me. Those wounds never completely heal, do they?

10. I lost my Grandfather many years ago, I always considered him my Father.
He was in the Army in WWI, I think that is why I joined the Army.

I still miss him, always will.

My birth Father is holding on but he almost died this year.

Enjoy the memories that you have, your Father is always with you.

12. I was the only one who was with my father when he died in hospice.

It was the worst and the best thing I've ever been through.

The entire world became colder for me that day, but I'm glad I was there with him even if he never knew it.

You never get over it, but it's something you shouldn't get over.

13. My dad came to see me get married and right after that we
played at a place he could get to...

Two days after he saw me perform he passed on. He was sick, and bitter and not a nice man but he was my father...

I still miss him.
