Best punk rock name ever?
I'd run a poll, but I don't see how anyone beats Joe Strummer. Though I have much fondness for Billy Zoom (as a name and as a musician.) And you?

1. I don't buy into it being a 'punk'
If that is the case, then the other methods would be so bad, I really try to avoid thinking that is being done.

Let's just nominate X. Because John Doe and DJ Bonebreak are great, too.

6. You got me thinking ... so then I found this.
It's a punk band name generator.

They give you a chance to enter an optional word.

I typed 'gump', and got this....

* Smelling Gump Of The Miserable Syndrome
* Gump Band
* Across Gump
* Confusing Gump Of The Photo Blur
* Gump Magnum
* Blonde Gump Of The Old Fellow
* Gump Parent
* Gump Of Chasing
* Obscurity Of Gump
* Gump Carcass

Give it a whirl...

* Bar Reverse
* First Class Her
* University Of Forsaken
* Force Marmalade
* Guardian Up Vehicle
* Soup Of The Herbal Depth
* Retired Attorney
* Humid Enema Of The Desire Sunberry
* Without Itchy

29. Awesome! Will be shared far and wide. You should probably break it out
as a separate thread; it certainly deserves it. Thanks!

8. Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious are kind of iconic
For that matter Iggy Pop is a potent proto-punk name.

A few more I like:

Rat Scabies
Richard Hell
Stiv Bators

Jello Biafra is a bit over the top, which maybe makes it more punk that anyone's.

22. Johnny Rotten was first coined by Carl Reiner in the 50s...
he and the other writers were tossing around idea for a "Your Show of Shows" sketch featuring a 50s juvenile delinquent. His first suggestion was "Johnny Fuck"
"Johhny Rotten" was the acceptable alrenative that he offered. Despite that change, the sketch never got beyond the writing stage.

I also think that Richard Hell is a great punk name.

26. Johnny is hilarious - this was a performance from the Late Late Show in 2007 -
Pretty Vacant, in which Mr. Rotten shows off his belly fat and rather fetching breasts and states
"Fat is this year's thin!",,,the band kicks ass live!

13. We had our own post-punk girl band,
I was Anne R Key. My friend was Luna Sea.

I also toyed with Decca Dance or Ruth Less (Ruth being my real middle name) but Anne R Key totally represented my attitude back then!

20. LOL! Actually our ability to come up with Punk Names
far exceeded our ability to play our instruments! But the 80s was a pretty low expectation era for Girls with Guitars, so we (kinda) got away with it.

However, the world is not a poorer place by any measure for my having given up my musical aspirations!

18. As found in my personal area here on DU, we once called out band
"The Fucking Shits", but we were not punkers and it was just quite temporary, and over 35 years ago.

But I love the name still.

21. Yeah, but the fact that the lead singer was named "Geldof" instead of O'Hara
always gave us pause. A Geldof from Ireland? We really do wander everywhere, don't we?
