Terms of Endearment for Loved Ones (human, animal, plant) that make no sense...

1. I call my son Pookie
I have no idea why. Or where it came from. Or whether he'll kill me once he gets a teensy bit older (he's 6).

2. My married best friends...
affectionately refer to each other by terms of endearment that I'd punch someone out for calling me. Things I can't post on DU without offending people and churning stomachs. Generally, we're talking sexual grotesqueries and profane acts not out of place in the writings of de Sade.

3. I went to college with a kid from Missouri named Peter...
that everybody including his professors called Pip. To this day, I don't know why Pip was Pip though the allusion is that it's a reference to the blonde, Cartman-annoying Brit-accented South Park character.

Pete's hair is dishwater-brown FYI.

4. That is very weird because...
I sometimes call my cats by the embarrassingly stupid endearment "fun bunch". What is it about the "fuh-buh" sound?

13. Fuh-buh must be a mystical chord.
There must be some explanation like that
because my cat is nothing like a fussbudget
& in fact his hobby is minding his own business.

5. In our house, the highest term of endearment is "Booger".
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 07:44 AM by distantearlywarning
My husband and I regularly refer to one another that way. We also used to call our favorite cat (before he passed away) "Booger", so much so that he thought that was his name. :)

Another favorite around here is "Stinky".

6. This is the strangest Term of endearment that I've ever had with
a girlfriend (we're lesbians). I have no idea how we came up with it. We're still friends and still use it:

Poo Poo Head!

(We both have really quirky senses of humors)

9. I call one of my cats "Bossy Pants"
because she's a bossy little thing. If she doesn't get what she wants (like cuddling with another cat), she crabs at the other cat & nags at them until she gets what she wants. :eyes:

18. I think how Rat Face got her name can fall into the category of
terms of endearment

She was one of a litter we were fostering. Her given name was Miranda. I was trying really hard not to fall in love with her, because we have too god-damned many cats and didn't need another one. So I started calling her "rat face" -- to give myself the impression that she was a less-than-desireable pet.

BAH! Long story short, Rat Face is well-known to many DUers as one of my most beloved cats.
