DU member "never cry wolf" has passed away

Hello everyone. I am member name "never cry wolf" aka Steve Thelander's son. Last night (08/10/10) my Dad passed away. Cause of death is unknown as of now until the autopsy is done but right now it seems like heart failure. It came out of no where really.

I know my father really enjoyed being a part of the boards here and I always saw him on DU. He was a very smart and wise man and we would have very in depth conversation about political matters (among other things) (I am also a Democrat).

I guess just a thank you to all who were his friend on here. The past 2-3 years were very hard for him and this board kind of gave him an escape. If you have any questions, remarks, comments, etc. just send me a message on here or email me at [e-mail] . I will post a link on this thread to his obituary when it is written (I till need to get the funeral arrangements together).

This may be cliche but tonight, hug or if you can't hug tell your loved ones you love them. You never know if you will get another chance...

it has to be the hardest thing in the world to say "goodbye for now" to someone we love.

ten months ago today my mom went to the hospital. i lost her two weeks later. both her and i were in shock at her sudden downturn health wise. it was like a shot out of the blue. what happened with your dad seems even more sudden/shocking/surprising. my mom and i had about a week to "prepare" for it--and i'm still not acclimated, still unprepared, still not ready for what has already happened.

it's a rough time--take it easy and just go slow.

and just know, in your heart, that your dad knew you loved him regardless of whether or not you told him lately. just like you know he loved you.

deep down, we always know. and it's the love that matters most. it doesn't stop when someone passes. it goes on and on. and they take it with them. and it keeps us connected.

Hello, this is Steve's daughter, Jessica. My dad had me get an account on here a few years ago because there was some particular post that he had wanted to look at. My brother and I really appreciate the outpouring of support that's here. My dad truly loved this site. I remember I would hound him about how he would have way too many tabs open on his browser, and at any one point, I'd see the "du" logo on about 10 different tabs. He loved to have talks with me at night about politics, and there'd be many nights when I'd sit with him and have dinner while we watched Rachel Maddow or a Senate meeting or The Daily Show or The Colbert Report (I'm also a Democrat). So I'd like to thank you guys for all of the conversations you'd have with my dad over the years. You truly brought him a lot of enjoyment during some difficult personal times.
