What if that lone unpaired sock in the load of dry clean clothes is actually
a sock that came back, instead of one that got left behind?

And if you threw out the lone sock every time you do laundry, how long would it take before you completely ran out of socks?

Laundry day. I have to entertain myself somehow. :P

1. Now my head hurts
I had already resigned myself to the opposite without even thinking of your theory. Now I have to start all over again. Crap! Go to your room!

2. ...but...but...but...
I have no idea why that popped into my head this afternoon, but it evidently bothered me sufficiently to post about it. :D

3. The socks are just messing with your head
Ignore them. They'll shut up if you don't pay any attention to them.

4. I sometimes find strange socks that do not belong to anyone in this house in our washing machine.
No one claims them, and the socks are not mine.

Where the hell did they come from.

This happens about once a month.

I keep a collection of these socks, this is a mystery.

I'm missing two socks of different pairs. :P

7. Time traveling socks...
They slip through time and space. My cat does that, too. I dunno where she goes, but, unlike some socks I know, she always comes back.

(Does this post make any sense? I should go to bed).

15. So I should ask my cats if
they've seen my lost socks while teleporting all over the place?

Somehow I don't think they'll tell me. :P

8. I went to an older, but cheaper laundromat for a while. Half of the washers ate socks.
Finally I determined that it was because some of the top-loading older washers had no curved-inward rim at the tops of their tubs, and socks could climb up and out during the spin cycle, so I never put socks or small stuff in those washers again.

11. CBC Radio once asked viewers to explain the one sock in the dryer and some
wise person said "it isn't a sock missing its partner....it is a whole bunch of lint that got together and formed a new sock!" LOL!

16. I thought about that as well, but
At my house, the lint forms new cats due to its high cat fuzz content. So that can't be it.

Socks with supernatural powers - I don't think that's been done. Shoes, yes, boots, yes, but not socks.

13. Feral socks like to travel alone.
But they have to be in the proper ratio with reference to a larger group. If you throw them out then some of your indoor socks will go feral to replace them.

18. LOL
I always like the theory of the Sock Exchange. The Dryer Trolls take the socks through the pipes and trade them at an undisclosed location.

20. Socks are actually the larval form of coat hangers.
Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 03:08 PM by KamaAina
This explains why socks seemingly disappear while coat hangers pop up out of nowhere. :-)
