My Dog Ate The Handle On The Cord For The Flywheel On My Lawnmower
:grr:

She eats everything (including those red hard rubber toys that are supposed to be indestructible.)

I can't get to the flywheel pulley because it has a cover over it that is riveted on. I can break the rivets but I can't see another way to get to it. I believe the cord is wrapped around the pulley but hell I can't see it. She tried to eat more of it as my son left it in the yard. You don't leave anything in the yard if you want to see it again.

She is a pound "puppy" (2.5 years old) Mastiff.

2. Fire your dog. I had a similar experience ....
only a bush, non-presidential in nature, reached out and snagged that very handle, which flipped off the mower handle and under the mower, which enabled it to get chewed into very tiny bits, along with about a foot of cord.

I had no rivet problem, though, just screws. It turned out to be easy and cheap to replace, like less that $10, despite dire internet warnings.

Take to a lawnmower repair place. It shouldn't cost too much.

4. Take a look at this thread
http://www.cockeyed.com/lessons/mower/mower01.shtml

You can see that the bolts for his Craftsman mower were hidden by the gas tank. Yours might be similarly hidden. It doesn't make sense that you would have to break rivets when frayed/broken cords are such a common problem. There must be a way to remove the housing. Maybe google the model number and see if anything pops up.

Or got to a repair place which should have straight forward upfront pricing for this type of repair. There shouldn't be any surprise charges.

6. If the prtoblem you have is what I think it is, get hold of someone who is very,
very good with chop sticks.

Turn the mower over and slowly turn the blades backwards. This will unwind the cord. You need the friend with chop sticks to reach in the tiny gap, catch the end of the cord and slowly pull it out as you turn the blades.

7. Don't do this!
Never turn the blades by hand without disconnecting the spark plug.

11. Ooops! My machine has an interlock to prevent starting, but removing the spark plug is
a good idea!
