4. I worked for a coupla temp agencies when I first moved to Tucson...
.
...and I hope I NEVER get that desperate again.
.
.
They got me one GOOD 9-month temp job where the company
was so desperate for help, I could have all the OT I could
eat -- and that's a FORTUNE for them to be paying to the
temp agency.
.
.
Then a job in the office of a factory that flew a guy in from
corporate in the Midwest somewhere to interview me for a
perm position after I had been there for two months or so.
.
Guy LOVED me.
.
They kept saying "hired" and "nah, we'll have the existing office
workers do the job" (they were overwhelmed already) and "hired"
and "nah" and "hired" etc. etc. etc. Most of the factory workers
were Mexican and Vietnamese. Most of the office staff was white.
.
No overt racism, but they treated the workers like shit -- always
spoke of them with the worst possible perspectives. By the time
the eventually said "OK, we're DEFINITELY hiring you"... it was
all I could do to keep from telling those pathetically elitist
assholes to go fuck themselves.
.
.
.
Then a succession of short-term and occasional jobs -- ALL the
companies loved what I did and asked for me when they needed
me again (for a short and occasional job)... but I ended up
burning through what little savings I had trying to survive on
"occasional" work.
.
.
.
I got a fulltime permanent position on my own JUST before I almost
certainly would have had to live on the streets.
.
.
.
If I gotta, I gotta (and some people LOVE working temps)... but I
certainly hope that I never "gotta" again.
.

9. An omen?

Just got off the phone with a recruiter - they're submitting my resume for a contract position with Delta - and here you post one of their (NW's) 747s. Gotta be a sign of some sort...

Good luck, Taverner, and all who are seeking employment.

3. That sucks but I'm surprised that you had 5 job interviews in 2 weeks.
(If that's what you're saying.) I'm lucky if I saw 5 jobs to send resumes to this whole year, never mind actually being up for 5 jobs. What field are you in that so many jobs are available?

7. Truck drivin, baby
The freedom of the open road, the beautiful countryside, the wonderous big cities, the comradery of your fellow workin joes, the overpriced and sometimes filthy truck stops, the unpredictable shippers and receivers, the ignorant motoring public, winter...all await you in an exciting and good payi...half way decent paying and adventerous career exploring this grand country we call America. It's the only way for me.

10. I can't even back up my motorcycle trailer without jack-knifing
so I think that's probably the wrong job for me.

12. They say that sometimes you should contact the people rejecting you
and ask them why you were rejected (tell them it's part of a personal performance improvement program). Sometimes that sort of initiative can lead to something positive.

13. Go through the telephone book. Call and get phone address of places you'd like to work. Do a huge
mail merge and send out 200 letters at once.
