Trampin' is her first post-9/11 album, and it is loaded with both compassion for the victims of that atrocity, and also with a fiercely passionate anti-war sentiment most powerfully expressed on the 12-minute-plus 'Radio Baghdad', which opens with the sound of children playing on the streets of that unfortunate city before moving - in the classic Smith idiom - through a variety of movements and grooves juxtaposing sung sections and the personalised Smith Sprechstimme. Speaking of same, I saw Patti Smith in San Franciso a few years back (2000?) at the Fillmore. It was the anniversary of Garcia's death. Did Dark Star towards close. A long version, too, i.e. both verses w/ substantial jam in between, Jerry's face on the rear projection screen emerging in and out of the psychedelia. People had tears streaming down their faces.

5. Jerry's not dead.

He faked his death rather than let down millions of fans, as well as thousands of fans who had literally devoted their entire lives to following him around the country.

My proof for this is, admittedly, slim and anecdotal at best: heroin withdrawal kills within the first two or three days, not two weeks later. Also, he supposedly died on April 20, at 4:20 AM -- alittle coincidental for my liking.

Jerry's not dead, though it sounds like a fucking awesome concert, and I wish I'd been there.

And, for my final point, I would like to reiterate: Jerry's not dead. "La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la. Jerry's not dead."
