Just watched "Sherlock Holmes"--and loved it

I have yet to read Doyle's stories, and make it an effort to avoid splashy popcorn flicks. But I'll be damned if this wasn't the most entertaining movie I've seen in a good long while. The interaction between Downey Jr. and Law was superb, the setting lush, the body count kept to a bare minimum, and the score exquisite.

When the sequel comes out, I'll be first in line.

I thought the scenery and such was excellent, the story was good, and the acting was great. I didn't pick up the "gay" vibe that some people were complaining about, either.

I thought that Rachel McAdams was totally miscast.

I like her well enough, but she really stunk up THIS movie.

I really would rather have seen Downey and Law make out than
Downey and McAdams hook up. The chemistry was better.

It might have worked if they had cast this actress:

Eva Green



Better look for the period, and MUCH more mysterious and believable
as an adventuress/agent than girl-next-door McAdams.

9. I thought the relationship between Sherlock and Holmes was more of...

...comrade-in-arms than lovers... sort of like Captain Miller and Sergeant Horvath in "Saving Private Ryan" if they had survived the war and were close friends and worked together afterwards.



I think Rachel McAdams did a good job in the role; I agree that the relationship between Downey and McAdams was a little forced, though.

And they seemed MUCH closer to each other than
Downey seemed to McAdams.



The last time I saw such a mixed up chemical equation
was in "Serendipity", where John Cusak and Jeremy Piven
had more chemistry together than Cusak and Beckinsale did.

2. I liked it too. Very entertaining.

And liked Iron Man, strangely, for me.

3. I thought the chemistry between Downey and Law was excellent.

My only knock would be that the special effects, while top flight, were a little excessive. Captured the spirit of Doyle's work though. Very good film.

I didn't like it at first. Then I went and reread all of the stories, and finally 'got' it. Now I love that movie and can hardly wait for the sequel.

5. Count me in.

I like Guy Ritchie's gangster flicks, so I went in with optimism. And I liked it. The old Basil Rathbone iconism didn't interfere.

And I'd read about the gay undertone, but couldn't detect it either.

I should probably put the sequel in my Netflix queue now.

6. I thought it was okay. I wasn't totally into all the fancy film tricks.

7. The story was pretty tight, too. I only caught one major screw-up.

They pretty much glossed over it in the last few minutes. Still, they did do a nice job of setting things up for the sequel.
