14. I think I have a couple plausible explanations

1) The phrase "going balls out on the offensive" comes to mind. Maybe this connects to it.

2) The army currently issues khaki or olive drab underwear. This was not always the case. I remember reading in Paul Fussel's Wartime that during the guadalcanal campaign the army had not yet started coloring everything green (underwear, toiletpaper, that kind of stuff) Normally one would think "why should we need green underwear. It's on the inside" The problem is that once somebody get's hit, what was once beneath may well be exposed. This means you have a nice white patch telling the enemy where your people are. Such a situation was so dangerous that people quit wearing the underwear until the army started dying it green.
