1. Cool! Great job!
I'm making them today, too, with homemade strawberry and blackberry preserves.

There's no sin in them when they're homemade. :hi:

2. That's the recipe I'm using, too.
That blog's going to be my ruin. :D

3. No shit!
It is one of the best blogs out there. Really awesome.

So how did yours turn out? Any tips on anything you ran into in the process? :hi:

4. Two things stuck out
I tried brushing the bottom pieces with egg wash but that made the dough so slippery I couldn't spread anything on it. I ended up brushing the egg only on the top parts before flipping them over. Also, because I'm lazy, I did it more like calzones - one big piece, filling spread on one side, flip the empty part over and seal. Then I didn't need my pieces cut so precisely that they match.

In the blog, all the photos looked perfect. The photos didn't show things like filling getting too close to the edge of the dough, the ensuing mess trying to scrape that off, or the cat racing over to eat dough scraps that fell on the floor.

5. LOL!
Okay, that last part really did make me laugh out loud. Thanx for the info. Enjy the fruits of your labor.

6. Mine are done and cooled.
And man are they excellent. They shouldn't even be called pop tarts. They have the flakiest dough ever and taste awesome! :bounce:

I swear I'm going to use this dough recipe for pies.

7. Yes! The dough was seriously flakey!
I don't know if it's tough enough to hold up to a bottom crust of a full pie, but it was wonderful - a whole different beast than the store bought pop tarts which are more like a cross between shortbread and cardboard.

12. Those look SERIOUSLY tasty -- probably...
.
...almost as good as McDonald's hot apple pies.

.
Teasing -- I had never heard of nor thought of homemade pop-tarts before.
.
Your descriptions, both sweet and savory, sound YUMMY!!

13. They are awesome
and easy to assemble. I made sure to roll the dough between waxed paper and all went fine.

I'm guessing that as much as my husband enjoys them, I will be making them again soon...probably this weekend. LOL

:hi:

10. That sounds like serious comfort food.
I wish I'd stuff some rhubarb from the garden into a few of them.

I saw on the blog a suggestion to try savory ones, too. (goat cheese and spinach?)

11. Holy Cow! With scallions and dill and maybe some....
capers or chopped kalamata olives. Or what about goat cheese, fresh figs, honey and fresh thyme. Curried chicken breast!
