Best heavy metal intros?
I can think of two offhand:

Van Halen "Hot For Teacher"

Motley Crue "Dr Feelgood"

2. "Unforgiven" by Metallica is astonishing.
I suppose the song itself is not strictly metal, being more of a guitar-heavy ballad, but it's by one of the best metal bands ever...

5. Any moment, someone will come along to "correct" you.
*wagging finger* Motley Crue and Van Halen are NOT metal. blah blah blah

I feel better having gotten that bit of mockery out of the way.

I'll go with "Crazy Train" and almost any of AC/DC's well known stuff. From "Highway to Hell" to "Thunderstruck"

9. Ooh, I have a new one.

But some may not consider it metal. It isn't "heavy metal." It's blues metal.

Robin Trower's classic Bridge of Sighs. We have some cymbals and then he makes his guitar kind of quiver at the beginning of the tune; it's unforgettable.

10. Boston's Long Time
That's probably not heavy metal for a field of experts but I was a bubble gum princess, and that's what came to mind.

Supertramp's Bloody Well Right is also a nice intro, but again, not sure it meets the heavy metal criteria

20. Pretty much all the old Sabbath tunes had classic intros
What about the song "Black Sabbath" itself? Starts out with howling wind and a thunderstorm, and then power chords from the bowels of Hell itself  :headbang:
