some thoughts on getting old in the USA

I mention USA because I cant speak for other cultures, but..


I am almost sixty, and apart from the basic everyday wrinkles, humps, bumps, this n that which doesnt bother me at all, in fact I find it amusing, there are a few other things I have noticed...

1. I hear young people refer to old people as 'cute'. 'isnt she cute!' says a20something about a lady they see walking down the street with her walker.
this will not sit well with me as I age, so I intend to have a .45 under my laprobe if someone refers to me as 'cute'.

2. waitresses or clerks that call me 'honey' and'sweetie'.

I know this is a cultural thing in many states, but I am hearing it wayyy more now that I am grey and old. sorry, it has to go. It is condescending when used in that format (old cute person incapable of chewing their own food), and if you pat me on the head I will use my cane in such a way that you will be reminded of that scene in Deliverance

3. Having lunch with women my age or older. ENOUGH WITH THE ORGAN RECITALS LADIES I DONT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT HOW YOUR PANCREAS IS DOING.

4. People who walk up to a lunch table when I am with a friend and say 'Soooo what are you girls (gals) gossiping about today??' They always get one stare from me, a smile, and I proceed to invite them to discuss quantum theory with us. They usually leave immediately.

5. Television. wtf. every commercial is aimed at people under 40. anyone, and I mean everyone over 45 or 50 DOES NOT EXIST EXCEPT IN THE MORNING WHEN WE ARE TOLD WE NEED WHEELCHAIRS, SCOOTERS, AND AARP. OR MEDICINE AND INSURANCE FOR OUR FUNERALS. FUCK YOU .
