Is it just me or is this a badly designed form?

I can't figure it out. I don't know what an officiant is - is that the person who will marry us? At the time we get our license, I don't know who that will be!

Who is the applicant and who is the spouse? Do we both have to complete a form and cross-list each other? And there's more than one space for a spouse - polygamy allowed in DC?

I am so confused. Un-confuse me. :dunce:

Is it just me or is it badly designed? :dunce:

1. Yes.
Officiant is the one who performs the ceremony.

You are the applicant, and I would assume that since it doesn't have another place for SSN/DOB at the top that you consider the 2 spouses as you and your spouse to be.

It is just confusing enough though.

2. This is why gay marriage is a bad idea.

It makes a formerly straight(!)forward process so ambiguous and confusing.

A) Yes, the officiant is the person who will marry you. If you went to a good Christian church with any regularity you'd know who that is.
B) In straight marriages the applicant is always the man, and the spouse is always the woman.
C) There's more than one space for 'spouse' because the sanctity of marriage allows an 'applicant' to be married as many times as he sees fit.
