On Edit: Take note that when he gets that call, he's standing at a magazine rack next to the section marked "Whacking Material".

6. Rest in peace, Mr. Graves! In memory:
Roger Murdock: Flight 2-0-9'er, you are cleared for take-off.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?

Captain Oveur: What?
Tower voice: Flight 2-0-9'er cleared for vector 324.
Roger Murdock: We have clearance, Clarence.
Captain Oveur: Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Tower voice: Tower's radio clearance, over!
Captain Oveur: That's Clarence Oveur. Over.

Captain Oveur: Roger.

7. One of the funniest movies ever!
I think his sheer natural gravitas was what made that character so damn funny. RIP Peter Graves..:patriot:

8. He almost declined that role
He thought it might hurt his career, especially the scenes with the kid in the cockpit. But he changed his mind when he learned that Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, and Leslie Nielsen were on board. It made him think there might be more to it than met the eye. He decided that an actor is supposed to stretch, and this would be his chance to stretch.

I think millions who love this movie are glad he changed his mind. :-)

9. That reminds me I really need to get "Airplane!" on DVD
Funniest film ever. Heh.

I HATED what the Mission Impossible movie did to his character. I'll NEVER believe Jim Phelps would sell out. Never! I refused to see any of the sequels because of that. Bastards.
