Thursday night was AWESOME SQUARED!!!!
Saw Sir Elton John and Billy Joel at Ford Center (basketball joint) in Oklahomosity. :D :D :D

They had two big pianos facing each other. They both came out and sat down and launched into "Your Song" and I started crying like a sentimental idiot. The lady next to me was crying too!!

Then they did "I Love You Just the Way You Are".

Then Elton took over the first half, Billy the second half, they did a lot of songs together.
At the end they finished with Piano Man.

They had unbelievable lights and 11 people doing back up, keyboards, drums, sax, trumpet, flugelhorn, two lead guitars.

I have played the piano since I was five years old, and seeing Elton just blew my mind.

=====
songs I remember:

Your Song
I love you just the way you are
Saturday Night's Alright
Crocodile Rock
Candle in the Wind
Funeral for A Friend
Love Lies Bleeding
Levon
Daniel My Brother
Allentown
Zanzibar
We didn't Start the Fire
Uptown Girl
You May be Right
It's Still Rock n Roll To Me
Only the Good Die Young
She's Always a Woman to Me
My Life
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Benny and the Jets
Rocket Man
I guess that's why they call it the Blues
Tiny Dancer

Finale:
Piano Man

3. Saw Elton John at Michigan State in 1971(2?)...
.
He was fronting his then-normal power trio with Nigel and Dee (just bass
and drums). This was before he got campy and poppish and he was mainly a
flat-out rocker with some incredible ballads.
.
He started the show by himself, coming out in white sequinned tuxedo tails
and tophat. Played 3 songs, I think -- BEAUTIFUL (can only amember Tiny
Dancer and Your Song).
.
Then the boys came out and he tossed off the coat and hat and was simply
dressed in jeans and suspenders with a white t-shirt. Blew the whole theater
away (indoor sports arena(?) -- forget -- BIG college venue).
.
First concert big-boy-all-by-myself (Mom had taken me to see Me and Dem
Guys -- a regional band whose big hit was a cover of "The Jolly Green Giant").
.
Smelled pot for the first time and, once I realized what it was and that it
was being smoked so openly and casually, I was convinced that the police
would be waiting at the doors and arrest all 5,10,15 thousand(?) of us. I was
an innocent smalltown Michigan boy.
.
GREAT show. Lost my enthusiasm for his music not too long after that.
.
FAVORITE album is kind of an obscure live album recorded in a NYC radio
station with maybe 100 people in the studio -- called 11-17-71 (for the date
of the recording). ROWDY stuff!!! One of the BEST versions of "Honky Tonk Woman"
that I have ever heard.
