Poll question: Would you have a professional maid/housekeeper?
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 05:22 PM by elfwitch
If you had the means to afford such a luxury, would you have a housekeeper/maid?
If so how often?
If not, why not?

1. Yes I would. And I would pay her as well as I could afford.

3. Yes, and
I'd make a weekly batch of cookies or a plate of fudge just for him/her.

Being a housecleaner is an almost totally thankless job.

5. I'd like to have someone come in once a week.
That way she/he could do the things that I just don't have tome to do on a regular basis. Clean the toilets. Clean the bathroom and bathtub. Mop the floors. Dust things. Clean the windows and baseboards. That kind of stuff. Basically do the things that have to get to the really gross stage before I break down to do them.

6. I used to have a cleaning service of sorts.
A friend of mine was trying to start a maid service as a side business. So, I signed on as a client because it was affordable and I wanted to help my friend. They came twice a month.

I guess I'd do it again, if I had a large enough place and was busy enough not to take care of that stuff myself.

8. I would, my wife would hate it.
She wouldn't know what to do if someone was doing a lot of that stuff that she takes care of.

9. Other...I want a staff
A personal secretary, a house boy, upstairs manservant, downstairs manservant, chef, footmen and gardeners. They all would be young, attractive and unmarried....

Ummmmm. Hiring would be such fun and staff meetings would be incredible!

15. Been there....done that!
I love being around beautiful surroundings, so for a few years I was a maid for a wealthy family who treated me very well. Then, when I moved to Florida, I was the maid for a few professionals (bankers, lawyers) who gave me the key and just wanted laundry and cleaning done. They paid well too. Then I worked with a company with a girlfriend, cleaning million dollar condos and homes in Naples Florida. We had a ball working together...went at our own pace, were honest, dependable, and were always being given beautiful household things and like-new clothes that the lady of the house didn't want anymore. We were happy with the pay and I always wore rubber gloves!

10. I'd feel a little uncomfortable with having someone clean up after me
My house is small and I'm not pressed for time...at least not now.

16. That was the REASON I got a maid; the beau at the time wasn't happy with
my level of clean and how much time was devoted to getting it that way, so he offered to get me a maid...

It made a HUGE difference in our relationship at the time, although it eventually met its demise.... but my maid is still with me!!!!

12. I once thought it would be nice to have someone
clean my house for me. I was working full time, so I had someone come in. It drove me crazy. I hated having a stranger in my house and she didn't put things back where I wanted them. Most of all, though, I just didn't like someone in the house.

14. I've had my Daysey for 6 years now...I couldn't manage without
her.

I can't imagine spending my evenings and weekends keeping my house clean. I LOVE a clean house and even her standards aren't as exacting as mine, but between the two of us, my house really is spotless and very well organized.

My time is far too valuable to spend it mopping, dusting, cleaning. I'm happy to pay a professional for her services.

Once a week is perfect for us... she comes after I've cooked all weekend and have trashed the kitchen!

17. Yes, absolutely.
I am a LOUSY housekeeper. I can't think of anything I'd rather do less than scrub toilets & tubs & mop floors.

We WILL have a housekeeping service when we can afford it, and those women make so little money that we'll always try to leave a decent cash tip for each one.

19. Yes...he's called 'husband.'...
We're partners in doing the housekeeping. There's no female/male role in this house. You see it dirty, you clean it up. We cook, clean toilets, change beds, do laundry, yard work, paint, shopping, etc. I'm not the wife housekeeper or homekeeper. We both respect, love our home and to keep it clean and beautiful, we are both equal partners. Our kids when young were also partners in keeping 'our'
house clean, safe and beautiful. They're adults now and do a great job with their own homes.
