What is the dumbest thing you or someone else has ever done?
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 03:17 PM by SendTheGOPPacking
For myself:
During my first job interviews 30 years ago I walked into the men's restroom after an interview by mistake. (I am a female!) It was noticed, unfortunately I didn't get the job.

edit: okay there's more - the exits were all glass and they were so clean I couldn't tell which one was the door and walked smack into one wall that was a glass window and smacked my head instead of the exit. I think that sealed it. I was so embarrassed I didn't ever want to go back there anyway.

Another person:
A stupid person I knew went into a grocery store many years ago and asked to buy some marijuana papers (they were behind the counter). I picked up some gum to purchase and pretended I didn't know the nitwit and made a separate purchase.

Any other stories?

(I have the day off and I'm getting bored with the 911 hearings . .. can you tell?)

1. In college we rushed out of the convenience store that wouldn't sell to us
right past cops, as someone said "If we gun it we can get to the 7-11 down the street before 2am!"

Of course the cops pulled me over two blocks later for speeding.

2. I once voted Republican.
James Thompson, the first time he ran for Governor of Illinois (and stayed on WAY too long, IMO)

I'll never make that idiotic mistake again...

5. Another dumb thing
I'm speaking of my brother, because I thought this was pretty dumb.

He decided to fight this arrest and I thought it was STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!

He was drunk (and turns into an instant asshole IMO). He was walking a bike across the street and a car crossed the stop line where she/he was supposed to stop before they came to a complete stop. My brother though that was egregious that he had to go AROUND this person, and picked up the bike and slammed it against the car.

My brother got arrested, but he thought the other person should have gotten a ticket or in trouble for causing the incident for crossing the line in the first place.

I say that is bullshit. It doesn't justify his slamming his bike against the person's car. He SHOULD have been arrested!

Like I said - when he drinks he turns in to an instant asshole!

I think this story makes it clear. :eyes:

6. Am I the only one who has ever done dumb things before?
I used to wait tables at a bar. I answered the phone and fell for the call from Dave Hunt looking for his brother Mike.

Think about it.

Anyone else?

8. pulled something of a bushism the other day....
i was writing something up, and i included the word "infuriorated." something looked terribly wrong, and not until i pasted it in microsoft word did i discover the problem: the word did not exist.

i can barely admit it, for the shame is overpowering.

anyway, that's the dumbest thing i've done all week.

9. At a new job, and in front of a bunch of people,
Made a copy of something I was going to fax so that I would have a copy after I did the fax.

Made coffee in a percolator (remember those?) without putting the lid on. 2/3 of the pot ended up all over the kitchen.

Poured coffee onto an overturned coffee cup.

Put ice cream into the pantry (freezer compartment and pantry are side by side).

Put a rental video into the cereal cabinet. For weeks.

Tried to answer the telephone by saying hello into the remote control.

Used liquid dishwashing soap (to do dishes in the sink) in the dishwasher. Thought "it'll do in a pinch". It doesn't.

Put leftover boiled shrimp in my purse to bring to the cat. Then forgot for a few days.

Opened a bottle of wine by shoving a paring knife into the cork and proceeding to shove the whole cork into the bottle. Messy and painful to get wine in your eyes.

I could go on.

10. I once urinated on a copulating couple.
It happened in the summer of 1978, when I was 12 years old and attending the New England Fiddle Contest in Hartford's Bushnell Park. At one point, I had to pee something fierce but the Port-O-Lets were all occupied. So I decided to do my business in a clump of bushes at the edge of the park.

Imagine my surprise when the greenery started swearing at me. Turned out, there was a young couple getting it on in the bushes and I was peeing on them!

I never knew I could run that fast with my pants down....

11. I glued my fingernail to my forehead a few months ago.
Not really the stupidest thing I`ve done but I think one of the funniest.
I cracked my nail so to stop it from further cracking I super glued it.My hair was flopping in my eyes I swiped it away.Well as you can figure yes my fingernail stuck to my forehead.I was lauging so hard looking in the mirror it took me a good 20 mins to get it off.
So I went around looking like I had a third eye with new bangs.

12. I snuck out my bedroom window as a teen
many, many moons ago, and went bumming with some friends and got drunk. As we were walking and talking I stepped off a curb and didn't know it and fell flat on my face and scraped my face from my chin to my forehead.

I looked like an idiot - an injured idiot. I had to go to school like that too.

I don't even remember what lie I told my mother in the morning after I crawled back in my bedroom window. But she bought it, as usual.

15. Pinched my brother's arse by mistake.
He was visiting last spring, and I went into the kitchen to find Tony (or so I thought) with his head stuck into the fridge; as i walked past, I pinched his arse, only to hear Sean say 'What the HELL?!".

Fortunately, both he and Tony thought it was funny, although I almost died...

17. Baked a meal in tupperware
I was taking a cooking 4-H project. One of the parts of the project was preparing a meal and freezing it and then reheating it by baking later. For some strange reason, I thought that the container that it was in would be alright to bake in. I was wrong. I realized it when I could smell the melting plastic. I was maybe 10 or 11.
Unfortunately, that is not the only dumb things and probably not even the dumbest, just the one which I thought of off the top of my head.

20. Burned a cop on a motorcycle.
Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 07:57 PM by Hotler
Crossed three lanes of traffic on the back wheel going for a Hwy on ramp. Set the front wheel down at 45mph over the limit almost clipping the front bumper of a maroon sedan with a gray-hair driving. Railing onto the Hwy with exhaust pipe from hell at full song I hear coming from my right,"PULL THAT FUCKING THING OVER", and all I see is a dark blue sleeve with a shit load of strips. A high ranking officer in the Denver administration on his way to work. Got ugly right away. Chewed my ass good. :spank: P.S. I kissed some serious ass that day.

21. I have walked into a men's rest room more than once
I think we have all done that. The first time was in the 7th grade. I was in a new school and was mortified. Especially when I was in the stall and boys walked in. Can you imagine, especially at that age?! I also did this twice while in Ireland, as a teenager, once at the Dublin Zoo, LOL! They didn't mark things plainly, there! The last time was in the Asheville, N.C., airport. It was under construction. Sure, since this just seems to have become my habit, LOL! I think this is about one of the most embarrassing things one can do, so I guess I just can't avoid it. That's it when it comes to my rest room stories, but I think they are pretty embarrassing, having been there.:-(

but especially rhino, hotler, paddy, and put out. You all had me howling this morning. thank you!

Have I ever done something stupid? Heh . . . this wasn't the stupidest but it has sure made me feel the worst. I was babysitting a friend's house and don't remember why or how but one of her fish wound up in the kitchen sink . . . with no stopper in the drain . . . the side with the garbage disposal . . .
