When did your favorite MLB team last win the World Series?
(or lets make Red Sox & Cubbie fans feel really really bad and pour more salt in their wounds)

My favorite team is the Cincinnati Reds and they last won their World Series in 1990. I still have the entire WS and Playoffs on VHS and I was actually in Cincinnati for Game #2 of the playoffs.

1. 1982. St. Louis Cardinals.
They should have won in 1985 (thanks umps!) and in 1987 (stupid alternating home field!)

But, at least they've won in my lifetime.

Oh, and in 1967 they prolonged the Red Sox misery by beating them in the Series.

8. We extended it in 1975
That homerun by Fisk was memorable but counted for squat.

The homerun that counted the most in 1975 - Perez connecting off the spaceman Bill Lee - that won us a championship!

52. Right. And in 1968, you guys ran into Mickey Lolich
Who beat the Cards three times and who Bob Gibson (his own self) says belongs in the Hall of Fame, though it'll never happen.
As the self-proclaimed World's Biggest Mickey Lolich Fan, I think that stinks (hey, I was 12 in 1968 -- how important is it that your baseball team wins it all when you're 12?).
Mickey isn't Baseball God, exactly -- but, to me, he is His Big, Fat, Lefthanded, Jug-Earred, Donut-Eating Messenger.
John
The Tigers, of course, won again in 1984. But that's discussed below.

OK, I was just a few months old, but still! :P

If Bob Gibson says it, who am I to argue. Bob would just plant me like a tulip if I argued anyway. :-)

And boy have they been pitiful since then. At least I have the glorious memory of Kirk Gibson's famous home run in Game One of the 1988 World Series.

1986 notwithstanding, Mets and Sox fans are brothers-in-arms. If there is any team in baseball that has more loathing for the Yankees, its the Mets. And for what its worth, my heart dropped when Aaron Boone crushed that pitch last year

26. Never - In fact I quit watching baseball years ago
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 12:27 PM by sybylla
MLB has become a race of the monied. Teams in small markets cannot compete - never will - until a system of revenue sharing like the NFL uses is put in place. The money problems of MLB are cancerous and growing. If the commissioners don't get their heads out of their backsides soon, there won't be much for baseball fans left outside of major metro centers. Contractions are inevitable. Traditions will die. Fans will at best become apathetic and at worst become angry.

IMHO. Not that anyone asked for it or anything.

34. Me too, BV. Spiezio's HR in the 6th game was unbelievable!
It was the backbreaker for S.F.

The Giants were leading 5-0, and were 8 outs from winning the Series. But Spiezio -- with two strikes, I believe, hit a 3-run HR to right.

The Angels rally for the win and then take Game 7 as well.

It took 41 years, but it was well worth it!

 to a fellow Angel fan!

C-Ivan Rodriguez/ 1b-Carlos Pena/ 2b-Fernando Vina/ SS-Carlos Guillen/ 3b-Eric Munson/ LF-Rondell White/ CF-Alex Sanchez/ RF-Bobby Higginson.
Rotation: Jason Johnson, Mike Maroth, Jeremy Bonderman, Nate Cornejo, and either Nate Robertson, Gary Knotts or Estaban Yan.
Bench: Craig Munroe, Mike DiFelice, Brandon Inge, probably Andres Torres and Greg Norton (it's too early to say).
Relief: Franklin German, Fernando Rodney and, again, the Tigs haven't left Lakeland yet. We'll button down the last few slots in the next week or so.
John
Loves, loves, LOVES his Detroit Tigers. Went to seven games last year and the Tigs lost six of them (though only one by more than two runs AND three of them in extra innings). And, after a season in which the boys lost 119 times, everything is looking up for 2004.
But, win or lose, it's STILL Tiger baseball.
