Vote for La Causa/ Youthbuild to win a grant! It involves dropouts and the environment
Edited on Mon Feb-01-10 09:10 PM by EndersDame
It will piss off right wingnuts off twice! I am a Youthbuild/ Americorps graduate so I am rooting for them

The proposed project will afford 10 high risk East Los Angeles youth ages 17 -24 the opportunity to participate in a paid comprehensive 10 month green construction training program, earn their high School diploma, coenroll in community college courses, and participate in UCLA's Green Summer Intensive Transfer Experience Program. The Green SITE participants will be immersed in an academically rigorous program designed to educate students about how to successfully enroll and excel at the university level, while training them on the impact that the green economy and related career fields will have in their communities. These youth will be matched with current UCLA students that will serve as peer mentors that will volunteer to guide them over their 2 year community college experience.
How will the 50K be Used?
$ 40000 To fund (10) student wages for the 10 month training program
$ 10000 To fund UCLA Green SITE Program Cost for (10) students

4. To me programs like this make sense
The kids get educated and in turn will not only be productive members of society but will also be able to provide a service. I wish more people would see programs like these as investments rather than frivolously spending money

5. And not only that but it's steering them
towards careers that are involved with improving the environment. It's a great idea.
