Barrett-Jackson from Scottsdale, the Superbowl of auctions, through Sunday on Speed Channel
A little bit of escapeism for those of us worn out by politics. Hope some of you are enjoying it like I am.

Tuesday auction list, let it load.

1. I like the emphasis on the cars, not the auction game
If you've been to a wholesale "dealer only" auction, you know - Barret-Jackson is a country club!

2. I go to GM/Adesa auctions a few times every year, it's fun
we plot out what we're bidding on and then we scope out the cars to see the overall condition. Tiring, and they sell over 400 cars in 8 hours. http://www.adesa.com/home

6. I used to go to Southern, in Ct. , with Fast Eddie
6 lanes then, 1000 cars every Thursday, double that now. Absolute bedlam. I still have friends in the biz, they were talking about a dealer _______ Brothers, who would stand next to the auctioneer to describe the cars "All right boys, we've got 11 cars today, 4 of 'em are good! Let's go!" Don added "And I've bought cars from them guys - they're worth what you pay for 'em."

4. Lot 70. 1987 Buick Grand National. Under 30k miles.
Want her.

Lot 75.2 1970 Chevelle LS5. That's nice.

Lot 86. An LS6? Really?

Lot 91. Another GN? Sub 10k miles? I'm losing consciousness now.

A couple really good Camaros. Sigh.

WHERE'S MY FUCKING WINNING POWERBALL TICKET, DAMMIT!!!

5. I think I rather like the early days of the auction.
I need to make it down there one year. Looks like a total blast.

7. i would have rather attended the "America's car collection" auction a while back.
there were some very significant rods and kustoms there, and many of them went dirt cheap, not to mention the muscle cars, race cars, etc.

8. eh...it lost its novelty a few years back...
especially when the speculative investors (i.e., non-car guys) came in and blew the roof off the prices...

do I really need to see another spotlight loving, dressed-down multimillionaire (who even when dressed down is wearing $500 designer jeans, shoes and jacket) proving he has the income to burn $346,000 for a '71 Chevelle? A car which he will never drive, but just bubble-seal it in his heated garage until the time is ripe to send it back across the auction block in 18 months??

11. It is in spite of the purists who can't bear to see the show outshine the cars
or the old wealthy guys buying the cars of their youth they dreamed of but couldn't afford. luckily, I grew up in a car crazy family, and worked at a great Chevy dealer early on in the 60's so I got LOTS of exposure and now memories.
