When life gives you grapefruit
...make Greyhounds.

Mrs. Robb: "I bought this huge box of grapefruit and you haven't eaten one."
Robb: "I'll have some tonight."

Protip: salt the rim and have a Salty Dog. Or in my case a whole friggin' sled team. :D

1. yum!
love grapefruit! all my life we had more than we could eat from my grandfather's yard, after he and my grandmother passed it was SO hard mentally to BUY them at the store. I'm always looking for free ones!

Same with avocados - had relatives in San Diego that always mailed a hugh box to us at x-mas, then they moved. whaaaa

2. I'm that way with asparagus
The little podunk town in Western Colorado I used to live in had asparagus growing wild in the irrigation ditches, if you knew where to look and when. Eat for free for months!

3. I love grapefruit. I can't imagine what one right off the tree tastes like
bet it as near to heaven as you can get on earth.

4. when we visited my grandparents in Florida ..
My grandmother would go out in the morning and pick up the ones that fell off the tree the previous night.

Very sweet indeed.

6. the trick is to just leave them on until you want to eat them
they get sweeter and sweeter. the urge to harvest the whole tree as soon as they are ripe is hard to over come - especially with former mid-western farmer types (my in-laws were terrible about this)

they start getting ripe in early December, but you can leave them until
April. yum. I may try growing one in a pot and bring it inside in the winter - I have a lime tree now and it makes a good batch of limes - I got a dozen or more this year and it is only 3 years old.
