My middle daughter (11th grade) is sending about 14" of hair to Locks of Love tomorrow.
It is the first time she ever cut her hair (other than to trim the ends). It is still just below the shoulders. She looks cute with it that way, but I'm partial to long hair. Our youngest was the first to cut her hair short but she didn't have enough for Locks of Love. The eldest easily has enough but she likes her long hair.
They are pretty controversial - from what I've found: high overhead (salaries) and they do NOT provide free wigs to kids with cancer. Also don't qualify as a charitable organization, although that might have changed. They sell the hair to wigmakers and then sell the wigs to families in need. They also use the donated hair for extensions. I believe there are other options - I think Pantene has a program that is more reputable.
