Any Lounger thoughts on the topic of Spam? Spam the canned meat, that is?
Now I have always associated Spam, the canned meat, with Hawaii, the Military, with sex, and with the brand name Hormel.

Others seem to have other thoughts.

I see Spam as a totally equal opportunity object of affection, but that's just me.

9. It doesn't HAVE to work that way.
Sometimes you can just fill a tub with it and romp around.

There must be 101 ways to use Spam!

7. I don't think it has cow in it.
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 12:29 AM by Jamastiene
I think it's based on the entrails and innards of pigs and other stuff the hot dog manufacturers threw away.

I think that is what it is, anyhow.

I don't question. It's cheap and I'll eat it, as long as it is cooked.

6. I can cook Spam with pineapple rings and brown sugar on it,
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 12:26 AM by Jamastiene
but don't ask me to touch Treet ever again. I can't even stand the smell. I grew up on it and stayed nauseated most of the time. I have tried everything I could think of to make Treet seem like food but cannot.

Spam, on the other hand, I can cope with it. Cook it like I mentioned above and cook some macaroni and cheese and black eyed peas on the side and call it a meal. Scrumptious!

I'd still rather have fish (Atlantic Croaker) than either though.

14. Maybe hot dogs with a saltier spicier bite.
That's would be closer. Of course, when I get done dousing it in pineapple rings and brown sugar, it almost tastes like leftover ham. But, that's just how I cook it. I think a lot of people eat it on sandwiches.

And it wasn't my post, but the post to which I replied that I wanted attention brought to.

Calls my spam reference a gay joke, only uses a different word.

Talk about uck, uck...

19. I like the new lower sodium spam....
Not as salty and tastier. I can eat spam several different ways, but like I have said before the favorite way for me to fix it for my kids is to brown it and then add Ketchup to pan barbecue it sort of. The spam is very dry with a coating of cooked (almost burnt) ketchup on it and you eat it as a sandwich on bread.

I started making this when we would go visit family in NYC and I would need something to feed my kids. The other family kids would also eat it and it became a favorite of theirs and my kids. Funny thing was that my kids liked it at home too, but really wanted it more when we visited NYC, and the kids up there only liked it when I cooked it. I guess I am the master of cooking spam in ketchup. ;)

29. I like the stuff, surprisingly...
It tastes similar to ham, and I don't care much for ham. Go figure. But, I don't eat the stuff that often. It likes me way more than I like it, and I'm carrying enough on my hips as it is.

31. I lost my Spam virginity on my first camping trip.
My friend and I went to Joshua Tree. After a fitful, freezing night, she made a fire, pulled out a frying pan, eggs, and Spam, and cooked. I was amazed at her planning and abilities and cooking out in the middle of the desert. It was a delicious breakfast.
