I thought that Avatar was pretty mediocre.
Looked cool, but the plot was totally predictable.

1. Ditto.
It was Dances with Wolves/Ferngully in space.

I don't get the hype.

2. A well worn story for sure, but the packaging was so good
and the story was fairly tight.
Geez, most movies and TV shows and plays are variations on a well worn theme. But it is how it is presented.
Avatar was well presented.

5. tight ? I could have eaisly cut it 20 -30 minutes. I thought it dragged
horribly in places. The beginning was slow and a lot of it was unnecessary. The end went on forever and the story never ends. The toys suck too. meh.

I'll definitely admit that the plot was beyond predictable and that it's been used countless times, but I think it's all in the presentation in this case. I was certainly awestruck as I saw the effects. But, then again, I'm a sucker for pretty sci-fi movies. :)

6. I suspect that it's one of those films...
a lot of people are going to be embarrassed that they liked it in a few years time.

9. I didn't see it. Everyone I know who saw it said it was lame.
Avatar is probably worth seeing solely for the visuals. That would be worth $15.

Hmmmm, I just discovered one advantage of living in Bangor.

I loved "Crash"! It's interesting, everybody's various reactions to the same thing. :)

10. Agree about the plot but still thought the rest of the movie made up for it.
I mean...come on, it IS a James Cameron movie so I didn't expect much as far as plot and script.

I went in there expecting a good follow up to Alien, Terminator 2, Titanic, True Lies, The Abyss - and I got exactly what I was looking for, in IMAX 3D!!!

I thought it was great.
