A Wii or a PS3?
I somehow managed to get both a laptop and a netbook for Mithrasmas. I'm keeping the laptop and exchanging the netbook. I can afford one or the other system.

I've tried deciding based on games:

PS3: Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, God of War III (coming soon), Kingdom Hearts 3 (coming eventually)

Wii: Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Zelda

My daughter says a Wii only works if you're directly in front of it about 8 feet away. This is problematic. Any Wii users able to comment on that?

I'm currently leaning towards the PS3 simply because Kingdom Hearts and God of War are awes.

1. I have both. Here are the upsides as I see them, if it helps:
Wii:
Nintendo titles- Mario, Zelda, etc.
Games tend to be cheaper than the PS3
Many more kid games
Backward compatibility is reliable

PS3:
Better graphics and HDMI connection
Netflix streaming
Blu-Ray player
More games, games on both systems tend to have more capabilities on the PS3

If I had to give one up tomorrow, it'd be the Wii. But if your main use is for casual gaming or small kids, the Wii is a better choice.

2. how about that other Wii question
my daughter says it's very picky about where you are using the controller. Now that I think about it, I'd be mostly sitting down anyway (I'm disabled) so I might not enjoy the Wii that much after all.

4. It can be, especially if the batteries are low.
The controller can also be very picky about how precisely you point at something- I don't know the nature of your disability but if you have a hand tremor or anything make sure to keep that in mind.

5. mostly arthritis
I'm okay with a standard PS2 controller, but my endurance is fairly low.

Thanks. I think I've talked myself into the PS3. :)

3. If it makes any difference
The graphics are better on the ps3. A lot better, at times. I have noticed that the PS3 makes me sick on some games. Some are ok, but some end up with a headache and nausea after 15-30 minutes. I think it has to do with graphics and viewpoint control, but I am still working on exactly what it is.

If you like sitting back and twitching your fingers, the PS3 seems more fitting. If you want to move around and be more active the Wii might suit better.

I do like the Blu-ray. The lack of even basic DVD playing capability in the Wii was what took it out of consideration for me.
