Please edit your calendars to make today Jan. 1, 2009.
There was no year zero, so therefore this is technically 2009, not 2010.

Technically.

2. I'm right on it.
Thanks.

I'm sure the masses will catch up soon.

And that we'll all be in synch.

9. Astronomers are a rather technical bunch.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronomical_year_numbering

"Astronomical year numbering is based on AD (Anno Domini)/CE (Common Era)
year numbering, but follows normal decimal integer numbering more strictly.
Thus, it has a year 0, the years before that are designated with negative
numbers and the years after that are designated with positive numbers."

6. I see you're another person that doesn't understand math.
There was no year zero, therefore 2010 doesn't officially start until 2011.

7. Well, actually there was a year zero.
It just doesn't show up anywhere.

Almost like it never happened.

If you get my drift.

10. and you're somebody that doesn't understand calendars.
it says '2010' in real big numbers, right across the top.

calendars are a human construct- it can be whatever year the vast majority of people agree it to be.
and unfortunately for you- most of us in western society are completely on board with the whole '2010' concept.
 sorry...

12. Yes, but it's really 2009.
You see, there was no year zero. Therefore it's really 2009.

This is very basic calendarology, and it's a shame the U.S. school system has declined so far that people don't know better.

13. Yes, precisely.
Ask me again in 2011 nee 2012. If we have to push it back another year we can get rid of 1977.
