1. One of the best scenes in the movie.
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 04:44 PM by bluesbassman
Darren McGavin was excellent in that film. The breaking scene was priceless too!

Mr. Parker: Get the glue.
Mother: We're out of glue.
Mr. Parker: You used up all the glue on purpose!

5. I bought the Blu-ray disc and watched it last night in it's HD glory

Yes, I know that TNT plays it for 24 hours, and it's in HD on TNT HD, but damn it, I wanted it without commercials!

I saw something that I never had before, when they go to Bo Ling's Chop Suey Palace, the name of the restaurant clearly came from a "Bowling" Alley sign with the "w" burnt out. When I checked it out, it's based on a real-life experience of assistant director Ken Goch. Whodathunkit?

9. That black cloud of coal smoke as he comes up out of the cellar
brings back so many memories of my own old man cussing at and fighting an automatic stoker in a coal furnace. You could smell it as the black cloud dissipated into a greyish fog filling the kitchen in the movie.

I guess the sourpusses in these threads about the movie grew up pampered with gas furnaces nobody had to think about and really can't relate to the time or the technology.
