Anyone else spending Christmas Eve or Christmas Day with an "X"??
My husband's X bought her first home this year thanks to the "first time home buyer credit", (I just threw this information in as she's in her late 50's and this is the first "home" she's ever had, she has always rented before, anyway, she has asked us, my husband of 29 years and I to come over for some Christmas cheer and game playing...."Apples to Apples". My husband's daughter and her husband will be there and other X family members. This will be the 2nd time I've been with her, the X, first time was in Florida 4 years ago when their daughter got married. I'm just wondering how many other X families get together??? Does this happen a lot to others???

1. I always get together with my X a few days after Christmas.
We parted friends, and have remained so.

5. a lot of people do it for their children's sake
and that is to their credit.

my spouse's family was not one of them and it has always caused tension during this time of the year, kudos to the folks who can make it work.

6. I always spend the holidays with my ex wife
We were married for ten years and have been divorced since 2003. We live a mile apart in a very small town. We are VERY close friends(no sex) even though we are seeing other people.

But, if she needs help I'm there, and if I need help, she's there.

We still love each other, and always will. But we couldn't overcome the difficulties of marriage.

I'm very glad to be her friend, it's important to me that we have a good, caring relationship.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

10. I had a wonderful time......even got some presents.
This might just end up being a tradition, or at least an annual event anyway. How many years does an "annual" something finally become a tradition??? Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays DU. :grouphug: :yourock:

17. According to my X neither does he,,,,,
but his now wife is the best wife he has ever had (according to him) and treats him better than any wife he ever had. Oh, by the way I am the only other wife he ever had.

I live with my daughter and he comes to see her and I try to ignore him and just stay out of the interactions as much as possible. We have been divorced for seventeen years, the same amount we were married. There are times he is good to me and times he is not, but he is always a liar that spreads rumors about me. I would love to live across country from him, "but if wishes were horses we would all be kings". ;)

... my ex-girlfriend's mom. She and my ex visit her ex-husband for Christmas or vice versa.

... I just realized that's the ex equivalent of "I know a guy who knows a guy who has a friend", haha.

19. Yes
I always spend a few hours with my ex's family. I love them so much. I would send the ex himself a card or ask him to get together for coffee or something but he is an immature 35 year old baby who will never grow up so thats that! hehe Other than that I think its great to try to stay friends with someone who has been such a big part of your life. Especially during the holidays to say "hey, I love you and I'm thinking about you."

22. I am at the house of a college ex who I am good friends with
We were friends before we dated, and after, and I've known her family for two decades now (!), and love them all. It was really nice to be invited into their home for the holidays, and to truly be made to feel welcome.

23. Yeah I have for years....
I love my ex and her family. Really special people, her and her husband. When i was married to someone else, she and her hubby used to come over to my Parents for Christmas Dinner ever year. That was kind of weird, but..

a great arrangement. I can't think of a worse idea for me.

25. My ex and I see each other several times each year at family get togethers.
We were married for 11 years and have been divorced for more than 30 years. We decided many years ago that we could be civil to each other for the sake of the kids. Now it's just natural for us both to be there and the kids can relax and not worry about conflict.

26. Is the ex also the mother of your husband's daughter?
Edited on Sat Dec-26-09 05:12 PM by Hosnon
If so, then it isn't that unusual.

And as a child of two divorced parents who is married to a child of two divorced parents, my sympathy is with the daughter who would otherwise have upwards of four places to visit each holiday (with each set of parents laying on the guilt pretty thickly for her not spending the entire day with them - or at least more than she did).

It doesn't seem like you're complaining though. I just thought I'd mention it because I'm always so freakin' worn out and have a low threshold for complaining from the parents on this matter. ;)
