1. somebody's gotta reply to your X posts, so here goes
They were one of America's great bands for a few years ...never saw them but did see Auntie Christ with Exene and DJ at the Launchpad in Albuquerque several years ago. They were great...and saw John Doe sing Your Cheatin' Heart with Los Lobos and Dave Alvin in Chicago a bunch of years ago too. I guess they've re-formed too and have played in Santa Fe but I always seem to be out of town or have a gig when they've been there...hopefully next time, if there is one....

2. The synthesizer is great in this song, if that's what it is.
Hope your El Rey gig was fun. Been stuck in Pecos.

I hear a lot of Dave Alvin on somafm, the alt-country stream. He's still writing great songs.

X was always my favorite of the LA punk bands, based on Los Angeles and Wild Gift alone. That live performance of Johnny Hit & Run Paulene is scorching: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x9168106

3. Agreed-X was the greatest of the LA punk bands--have you heard More Fun in the New World?
it's actually my favorite of all of their albums.....El Rey gig went well; not quite as many people as we expected, although still had in excess of 200 people, but we've had as many as 3 or 4 hundred in previous years . I think the 20 dollar ticket price chased some regulars away, even though it was a 2 for 1 with another New Mexico legend, The Planets, opening the show . And we had to be at the top of our game to go on after them; 25 years after splitting up and they still sound great. I only got to do one lead vocal, but a great song; Southside Johnny's I Got The Fever ( written by Springsteen ); it went over real well even though we played it too fast; supposed to be more of a grinding beat. Oh well, my own fault for letting someone else count it off, should have done it myself .......And yeah, I listened to Johnny Hit and Run Paulene too, in fact had just listened to it a few nights ago. Scorching is the right word for that performance.

8. That is the version that was first pressed, I believe...
The first version I ever heard...somewhat different from the Slash/Electra recordings, from Dangerhouse, maybe...
Anyway excellent red record with the big X in the middle.

6. I saw them this summer and was afraid it was going to be one of those...
"let's all relive the glory days of our youth" trip.
I was so wrong.
They were incredible.

7. I'd like to see them live soon, if they tour again.
All the live clips on youtube of their recent performances look really good. They sound great.

11. It blows me away (and makes me happy) how strongly their music lives on
and how much they still mean to people.
