What sport is your favorite?
Edited on Sun Mar-21-04 09:08 PM by coloradodem2004
For me, I enjoy watching football. Though Baseball is a close second. Because it is true Americanism at its best. After all, it is the "Great American Past time."

I just got through watching "The Rookie." That is why I started thinking about it.

A beautiful and ugly sport, all in one. Boxers are the most interesting people.

19. I agree - Boxers are the most complete atheletes as well
At whatever weight they fight, boxers have to have the endurance of a marathon runner and the explosiveness of a football running back. They have to have the speed and coordination of a tennis player and the muscular strength of a weightlifter. Often, boxers try to tire each other out by leaning much of their weight on the other guy throughout the fight. Successful boxers have to have good defense and offense, and have to mentally adjust to the other throughout the fight, all the while getting their face and mid section pounded. Boxing also involves very important psychological warfare as well. While team sports involve high degrees of specialization, the boxer is his/her own universe. Other sports involve annual competitions to determine the best. Boxing follows its own timetable. I think the sport has suffered a great deal over the years, with absolutely terrible decisions on some fights and a crappy system with too many belts and divisions. But it's still high drama and, as you say, both beautiful and ugly together, like a great tragic play.

Has a good balance of offense and defense, and there's the one game a week anticipation. Action packed, but in slow motion, it looks beautiful like ballet. :-)

17. Baseball
I live for opening day. I know spring is almost here when it's time for pitchers and catchers to report. I continue to love the Baltimore Orioles even though I despise their owner and they've repeatedly broken my heart.

Baseball means summer; it is a game of finesse and skill, not of brute force and violence. I love baseball!

22. Soccer
I grew up with baseball, football, basketball, and would've said those sports were my favorite. But I'm bored with the Big Three these days, with the exception of college football.

But now soccer is my favorite sport to both play and watch. There's a purity to it. When you kick the ball perfectly – or watch it being kicked perfectly – it is so SWEET.

Indy style (except those LONG oval races) and DTM are good too.

I hear IRL are going to go road next year. Good! I hope they absorb the last remnants of CART and we have a strong Indy series again.

34. I'm kinda partial to Gladiators
However, for some reason, they have stopped this sport in recent years. All of those oily sun tanned bodies swinging around axes and swords and lopping off each others appendages and important fucntional body parts has been discontinued. Maybe with some luck this sport will be rejuvinated in the near future.

Yes, I'm kidding

I'm a Miami Dolphins season ticket holder. It's definitely worth the investment, IMO.

I'm also a college football fan. I watch a lot of games, but the only school I really care about is UF.

I pretty much like most sports, but college basketball would be my second favorite. I find it much more enjoyable than the NBA.

41. View from the UK
Football is THE sport. And we're talking the proper football, professional rules created by Charterhouse in 1859, not the namby pamby hybrid of rugby, involving more padding than my ex-girlfriend's bra. And what's with the MLS - no promotion? What's the point? Penalties from the halfway line? Eh?

(Having said that, I have recently developed a liking for American Football I blame the Superbowl and your 360 degree camera angles - very nice!!)

Next comes cricket. Where else can you sit, in the sunshine for 5 days (...in England, not going to happen) and talk utter drivel such as "and the batman has had a slash and the ball has dribbled away down to his short leg".

Then Rugby. Now that's a proper sport. Full on contact, no messing about. But I was educated at the school that created the game, so perhaps I'm biased.
