A couple of Dinosaurs.........Jimmy Page - Eddie Van Halen??
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 05:01 PM by GreenTea
"Jimmy Page is an excellent producer. Led Zeppelin 1 and Led Zeppelin 2 are classics.
As a player, he's very good in the studio. I never saw him play well live. He's very sloppy.
He plays like he's got a broken hand and he's two years old. But if you put out a good album and play like a two-year-old live. What's the purpose?"
-- Eddie Van Halen,

That is among the stupidest things I've ever heard anybody say.

Strange things have happened lately. I've been more honest than the Pope and I was smarter
than our president for eight years, and now I have tp explain rock n roll to Eddie Van Halen?

Here's the deal, Eddie - it's not about "getting it right" and it' not about pleasing your guitar teacher
and it's certainly not about who can hyper-hammer the most notes on a guitar in a single second.

It's about generating EXCITEMENT and nobody does that better than Jimmy Page.

Has your band ever filled a stadium with 77,000 people, Eddie?
No, you haven't because your band never generated that much EXCITEMENT.

Has your band sold 200,000,000 albums, Eddie?
No, you haven't even gotten to 100M because your band never generated that much EXCITEMENT.

Last time Zeppelin got together - 32 years after your disrespectful little tantrum,
one reviewer said Page was so exciting, "it was like watching him invent electricity."
When's the last time YOU got rave reviews like that, Eddie?

One last thing - Page has colors and shades but all Van Halen songs sound the same.
Can anybody name a beautiful song Van Halen ever wrote?

There's more diversity on In Through the Out Door than in all of Van Halen's discography.

2. I certainly prefer LZ to VH, but there was a period when Page was an incredibly sloppy...
live player. Heroin will have that effect on some people.
All that being said,
I have always found that quote from EVH to be very funny, I can't imagine ever wanting to hear VH again, and I'm a sloppy player myself.

5. +1
honestly, I can't believe he had the nerve to insult Jimmy Page.

I don't care how good a guitar player Eddie Van Halen is,
Van Halen's songs are horrible. Especially that 80's crap that made them popular.
Panama? Hot for teacher? please... :puke:

6. Eddie is right
Eddie Van Halen is right. Jimmy Page does play like a two-year-old with a broken hand. Just listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkApNqfg7tE

Horrendous.

10. Hey, welcome to DU!
Way to bring a guitar post back from the dead.

I agree with you, but didn't want to come with the negative waves when it originally was posted.

The playing on the solo was just awful in that video(and it's not one of those Stsanders parody videos).

That was in '88 when page was 44 years old.

That's no excuse. These days the best guitarists (excepting Page) are over forty or under twenty.

:toast:
