2. Lousy.
Gimmicks galore, and not much talent.

Just because I'm old - 64 years old - and because I'm watching my old rock heroes embarrass themselves, I was gratified to see that - of all people - Meat Loaf, who is 62 years old, has taken care of himself and his voice (which, admittedly, isn't what it used to be), and he's still capable of putting on a performance like this, which blew me away:

Compare that to Adam Lambert.

3. Way, way over the top.
It wasn't sexy at all, it was disrespectful and raunchy.

4. Fucking shit! That guy sucks.
That's corny, gimmick laden crap. Hasn't the "shocking performance" thing worn itself out yet?

How'd I know he was going to go for the big scream at the end...

5. For a while I liked him,
back on American Idol he did a couple of great performances ("Black and White" and "Mad World") and a few pretty good ones ("Ring of Fire," "Tracks of My Tears" and "Whole Lotta Love") and a bunch of forgettable ones. But since then I haven't been impressed by anything and I think he's blowing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

7. He was doing OTHER people's song
which is why I call that show "American Karaoke"

I was pissed Rolling Stone put him on the cover. The same issue they had a great article about Gregg Allman - put HIM on the cover.

17. Mad world was great but on most songs he was too over the top for my liking
not emotive enough with his voice and more of a screamer and sensationalist sytle

8. Jumps Shark. Shark Won't Have Him....
Words alone cannot describe how awful he is.

And let me say another thing I don't like about this guy. I think he's using his sexual orientation as a marketing tool. He rode the "is he or isn't he" bullshit as long as he could, and then came out just in time to get more media attention.

I find him repulsive on several levels.

11. Isn't a crappy soundtrack the norm for anything that is soft porn

No one really buys the soundtrack to soft-core porn movies.

13. Who's Adam Lambert?
Ok, I looked him up and now I know but seriously, I didn't know until I googled... I'm pretty sure I'd have been able to sleep tonight without ever having known who he was.

16. ABC got 1500 complaints so far.

LOS ANGELES, Nov 23 (Reuters) - ABC television said on Monday it had received about 1,500 complaints about the sexually-charged performance by "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert at the American Music Awards on Sunday.

Millions of viewers saw Lambert simulate oral sex with a back-up dancer, plant a passionate kiss on the mouth of a male keyboard player and gesture to the audience with his middle finger during the closing act of the live music awards show.

Lambert, 27, said his goal was "not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom".

ABC cut the most controversial part of his act -- Lambert rubbing the face of a male dancer in his crotch -- from the U.S. West Coast telecast that aired later on Sunday

He's got a good voice, he doesn't need to be a tramp.

18. IMO, people are overreacting
I didn't really know who he was - caught the performance during a commercial break from the Bears game - had to look him up. Clearly, I don't watch American Idol.

As for the performance - his voice was less than impressive to me - but, as it was live, I was willing to cut him slack on that - lots of things can affect your voice live.

The performance, sans unimpressive voice - I found it interesting.

I find the "outrage" over the sexual stuff pretty ridiculous - he's hardly the first to do this kind of stuff - the big difference is that it's guy-on-guy. Get over it. Because it was guy-on-guy, I found it more interesting.

As for the kiss (which I know wasn't the focus of the protests you mention) - heck, at the time, I couldn't even tell if he was kissing a guy or a girl - the guy was so androgynous. Of course, might be a different story if I had an HD TV.

Overall, I found it mildly interesting, not the least bit shocking.

20. It was shocking for non-cable television.
Granted, it was on late. I can't recall seeing things that suggest bondage or oral sex between couples of any kind on regular television.

Nice looking guy. He's got a powerful voice and sang a wide variety of songs well on American Idol. He's got the talent, lets see what he chooses to do with it.

23. maybe I'm desensitized, maybe
I just don't find such things shocking - or don't think they should be considered shocking.

Of course, I've always thought the puritan views of sex in this country are ridiculous.
And more than a little harmful in the repression they encourage.

I found it entertaining.

It was a little showcasey and looked like he might have been trying for a shock factor, and I KNOW he can sing better than that, but overall, I liked the perfomance.

You can take the man out of the theater, but you can never take the theater out of the man.
