Some easy 60's trivia

Low cal beers seem to be the rage now, but they've been around. Back in the late 60's there were two companies that tried to find that market niche - and both bombed.

1) Name the two brands.

2) One of them had a joke attached to it that almost every beer-drinking person in America knew. Recite the joke.

The winner takes his place amongst the others on this board (myself included) who long for Madras pants and wide belts. :)

3. Partial answer:
The first low calorie or "light" beer was Gablinger’s in 1967. The Rheingold Brewery of New York City brewed it; Dr. Joseph Owades developed it. The brewery owners were afraid that their reputation might be damaged if the beer was a failure. As a precaution, they chose the name Forrest Brewing Co., after Forrest Street, on which Rheingold brewery was located, to label this beer.

4. Good job, team - so far

Gablingers was the better known of the two - 1967 was the year for the both of them, however. And Gablingers had the joke.

7. Haven't a clue...
I thought their TV ads "If you drink this, you'll lose weight" was the joke.

8. We'll see if anyone else remembers it
If not, I'll fess up later on.

BTW, of course it was not part of their advertising, but it made the rounds of all us hormonal 14 year-olds back then, which meant of course it had bad words in it. :)

12. What sort of gross name is that?!
I can think of two words, both of which start with "M", merged together, that creates "Meisterbrau".

And, no, I won't repeat them! :scared:

14. Oops - I forgot about the joke
From the bowels of '67 - here it is:

What do Gablingers and making love on a beach have in common?

They're both fucking near water.
