1. When Dad finally agreed to a hearing aid
we got him a telephone designed to work with it. During one phone call he kept telling me to speak up, to stop muttering. I told him to turn up the hearing aid. He responded that that wouldn't do any good. When I asked why it wouldn't do any good he responded with refined parental exasperation, "Because it's in the OTHER ear." .....sigh......

2. I will refuse to get them when I get older, too.
As some here know, I work in a retirement center. I see people spend thousands of dollars on hearing aids and have to run them back and forth all of the time for repairs and adjustments and then they still can't hear crap. Depending on the type of hearing loss you have, it can be a real ripoff.

A bunch of the residents where I work got those amplifiers, too.

4. I was given one and it was horrible

(Someone in the house says I can't hear worth a damn.)

It was admittedly cheap, but I almost blew out the remainder of my hearing because in addition to ambient room sounds, IT ALSO AMPLIFIES YOUR OWN VOICE, AND MAKES IT VERY LOUD.

I used it twice then claimed I lost it. :(
