New Clutch: $2,200
Of course, that's what the Infiniti Dealer quoted me. Includes a new "flywheel" (price for part alone - $1,200).

Any other suggestions?

2. Replace all the 'Infiniti' badges and insignias with 'Nissan Sentra'
Edited on Mon Nov-02-09 09:05 PM by Richardo
Price will go down by 60%.

I had a 93 G20 (a twin of the Sentra) and that POS had the most overpriced parts I've ever had to buy, and I had to buy a lot of them. Best day I ever had in that car was the day the engine had what my mechanic termed 'a catastrophic failure' and I know I'd never have to drive that thing ever again.

3. Take it somewhere other than the dealer.
Most expensive place to get that car fixed.

5. Yep
I went to a dealer when my heater went out and they wanted $1000 to put in a new heater core. I took it to a independent mechanic and he told me the heater core was just clogged. He cleared it, flushed the water system, and put in new coolant for $200.

Lana Marks’ Cleopatra Clutch – $100,000

Lana Marks releases just one of these limited edition bags per year. Pictured here is the 2007 bag, made with metallic silver alligator skin and 1,500 fully cut, faceted black and white diamonds set in an 18-karat white gold frame. Each year’s bag is signed and numbered.

This is totally going on my Christmas wish list!

Thanks for the kind thought, Richardo, you are a great buddy. But that purse is really not my style. I think it's pretty ugly, actually. :pals: :loveya:

13. Yeah, flywheels can be resurfaced, no real biggie.
Cripe, I had the clutch replaced, new throwout bearing, new clutch brake installed, and flywheel resurfaced in an International 9400 with a Cummins N14 and a Spicer ten speed for just about half that price, and the labor involved was way more than any clutch replacement for a four-wheeler.

Hell, dropping the tranny alone was more work. That ten-speed probably weighs close to half of what an entire Infiniti weighs.

15. You shouldn't need a new flywheel
It's a hunk of metal with two purposes: add mass to the crankshaft to even out the power of the engine, and to be turned by your starter motor.

Unless there have been advances in flywheel technology that I'm unfammiliar with.

You shouldn't need a new flywheel unless your starter motor has ripped the shit out of the teeth on it. It's a symmetrical hunk of iron pinned to the crankshaft. Aside from a couple of seconds of being spun by the starter, it does not interact with any other moving part. It doesn't rotate on a bearing, it's not gripped by a clutch or brake... it's just a weight fixed to a shaft. It's almost like somebody saying the pendulum of a grandfather clock has worn out!

17. In a manual transmission the flywheel is gripped by the clutch plate
very often it needs resurfaced when the clutch is replaced.

22. Ah, that's true
I haven't played around with disecting a manual in about... jeex, 12 years, I think.

I'd fogotten :dunce:

Still, needing a new one seems unnecessary, when it could just be resurfaced.

Unless, perhaps, it was warped by heat?

18. We recently had our "quality" Passat towed off to a dealer as part of a trade.
Got less than $500 for it after paying close to $7000 for it used several years ago. It spent much of that time in the repair shop, including the last 2 months of its life with us- and they could NOT FIND the cause of the problem. The car started to really go bad after a visit to the VW dealer for recall work.
I have owned 5 VW's, going back to my micro-bus in 1969, and I will never buy another one.

I'm on my 2nd Hyundai now and probably will stay with them. Got 10 good years of daily use out of the first one.

19. Hold the phone, "experts"
Hey, odds are that the flywheel will be fine with a resurfacing, or maybe even a cleanup with 80 grit paper. BUT - if there is a crack in it, other than a very small heat check, it has to be replaced. Clutch/flywheel explosion at high rpm DEFINES catastrophic failure - I've witnessed it cut a car almost in half!

Many racing sanctions require use of a "scattershield" bellhousing in a manual transmission car - they are hydroformed from heavy steel plate (Or titanium), certified and tagged.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSFA0ufNS_k Any questions?

Suggestions? Look for a respectable independent import specialist shop.
